The Time where Volvo was Valiant and Mercedes was Majestic. I never forget this
  • @thefokin
It still boggles my mind that they've been using the same game engine for 20 years.
  • I remember playing 18 wheels of steel as a kid, didn't really know what to do, so I was just driving around from place to place, I especially loved the atmosphere when it rained, sometimes I would just stop on the side of the road, made tea and listened to the rain. Didn't know ETS is made by the same team.
  • @Ch1n4m4nn
Yeah... the old dealers from ETS. I still love them. The always get me nostalgic 😅
  • @tibsie
The thing I remember most about ETS (not 2) is that you had to pay in game money for access to any country that wasn't your starting country, although if you picked a really small country it gave you a neighbouring country for free. I'm also really glad that SCS stopped doing what EA does with sports games, releasing essentially the same game year after year with minor updates, and released a game that they could keep updating for over a decade.
  • @Sobecho
Don’t forget probably one of the most important updates to ATS shortly after it’s release was the re-scale update. The initial game just didn’t seem as big but the rescale update made distances feel so much better
  • @Quasihamster
Oh the memories. NPC driver: "Anyone got an update on the traffc situation?" Me: gives weather report NPC: "Eh... maybe you should take a break."
  • @BlueOvals24
I had no idea that SCS did the 18WOS games, or that they started off with games that take place in the US while being a European based company. Always though ETS1 was their first trucking game. Really cool evolution, and still evolving with ATS and ETS2! The future of trucking games will always look promising so long as SCS is around!

18WoS: PTTM is definitely legendary, and had features we dearly miss. CB radio was also there as a new feature. Also, turn lights were a thing, as first game Hard Truck did not have them for player, only for AI traffic. Random events on the road, police really physically pursuiting you if you caused havoc (!), weather forecast, areas with snow in Alaska, quite wide truck customizations, lots of trucks to drive, meeting your own drivers on the roads... Really amazing game and great features for that time.

Hahaahah 4:45 that's my MAN F2000 which I made in Zmodeler2. I remember the big community that we had in Poland around 2006-2008 called HardTruckSite. Good times!
  • i remember those driving games were almost always in the bargain bin. i bought one since i was interested in driving games and liked the concept, and now all this time later ETS2 is a class act worthy of being in any gamers play list
  • @hope6571
Just a little note: The CB radio existed in both Across America and Pedal to the Metal. You could talk about traffic and weather.
  • @Stormy01
You can see the frame work for both ETS2 and ATS in 18 Wheels of Steel: Hard Truck and its amazing to think they've came along way from just a game about building trucks and driving them across the states to a realistic driving simulator driving from Coast to Coast. I'm glad I found this game.

18 Wheels of steel pedal to the metal will be remembered forever for me and my brother, we both used to play this game day and night, it was incredible at the time. I miss those moments
  • @BlueShift2000
I can remember my school days sharing ETS2 with other mates and driving while we had classes. Nearly everyone sat there, playing ETS2 with keyboard and having our best times. Man 2012 really was somehow of a nice time.
  • @phantomfire57
you don't own a gaming pc until you install and play ETS 2
  • @pawek9143
Blinkers, Part shops, cb-radio were also in Across America - my favourite game from early 2000s
  • Extreme Trucker and Extreme Trucker 2 were my favourites. So much fun in these games. Also personally I consider GTS to be the first game of the new SCS era. PTTM was also great, and Haulin was the best success L.E.: this is my most liked comment ever, thanks everybody ::)
  • I liked how the load information was floating at the trailers. Fond memories of the earlier versions

A lot of models from previous titles are still present in ETS 2 and ATS, something that not many games are capable of doing, but since Prism3D is SCS Software's in house game engine, they can take advantage of these assets to save time on future projects. Take Dover port for example, and Calais, which was finally updated not too long ago, given how old ETS 2 really is.
