✩ABOUT THIS VIDEO✩
In this video we investigate how the Japanese modified torpedoes so that they would work in the shallow waters of Pearl Harbour.

I understand that bills have to be paid so I'm not mad. All I'll say as someone who played WoWS from 2015 until 2022 is, the game in its current state is more sad and depressing than it has ever been. Don't waste your time on it.
  • @LordPecka
Bloody hell, that's mechanical PID Loop!
  • @BrandonF
Lot of weirdly negative comments here. I really enjoyed this video, just as I enjoy the non-military ones. Thank you for it and all the hard work you clearly put into these videos! Those animations don't look like they happen quickly!

Some mention of the lessons the Japanese took from the British raid on Taranto may have been educational to viewers.
  • @SaruyamaPL
Didn't realize before how that works, very informative!
  • It was the British sinking the Italian ships at Taranto that gave The IJN the idea
  • I wonder why there are so many people in here butt hurt about either the Taranto raid(which has been mentioned in these very comments to be a different solution to what the Japanese came up with)or the fact the video has a sponsor(yes, from a bad game),like they've never seen a sponsor in a video before(like the many other bad games/products out there).

Japan had the best torpedo design in the world during WWII. The U.S. had the worst torpedo design in the world during the first year and a half or so of WWII. It took until mid 1943 for the U.S. Navy to finally have a reliable torpedo. The new U.S. torpedo was still not as good as Japan's, but it worked.
  • Fantastic video, I'm glad you're covering interesting naval topics like this as well as your usual naval content! So fascinating!
  • @drksideofthewal
Beautifully done sponsorship, using it to help illustrate the point.
  • @ColtonRMagby
The Japanese engineered a solution that works, and I love it. If America had tested these solutions, they would've had torpedo nets or something similar in place to stop the torpedoes short of their targets.

    Mechanical PID regulator. Cool!
  • @RobSchofield
Excellent! What you describe with the vane control system is related to a technique called PID (acronym) to reduce over-compensation. Worth looking up on Wikipedia or some such.
  • @mimodesu7689
I never knew about this i thought it was just normal torps.
  • @ConnorYounkin
I'd like to see a video about why the American torpedoes at the battle of Midway were all duds.
  • @justintaylor1996
Man one of your best videos, even the ad giving more context, great video!
  • @FAMUCHOLLY
Excellent analysis and video! Thanks for educating me!

From watching Tora, Tora, Tora so many times I knew about this torpedo situation, and that British did the same trick against the Italians at Toranto.
