The first technique is fine if you are practicing jabs. The second technique is for 1-2 punches.

For those arguing whether you should master pivot, plant, or step, the answer is you should work all of them. There is no one element of footwork that is superior to another, they are best when the situation dictates you need them, and you should train each, and each is fundamental to build the next stage of footwork training. You can't work in and out footwork drills or gallop jabs without learning and mastering step jabs, you will have a hard time doing square drills or Cus d'amote shifts if you don't have pivots worked, and you'll have a hard time learning in guard jabs if you don't learn plant jabs first. You need each to be well rounded, whichever you're best with becomes your repertoire overall but footwork, jab drills, and head movement drills should be the core basic drills of any serious boxer that wants to take it seriously. These are only a couple of the basic footwork drills at that for the core too. There is still laterals, the shuffles, L steps, and mirror step drills.

There's a reason it's referenced as a dance between gladiators. Rhythm and flow matters in boxing.

  • This is a great and accurate technique but what he was doing was valuable too..... a single step and jab sets u up for the back foot to side step so u become 45ยฐ offset from the opponent, opens different/more angles and allows u to walk around the outside which makes the opponent need to reset his approach before attacking again. It gives u an extra turn to strike, like an uno skip card for the ring
  • That back foot comes down so fast it's almost like they are kicking the floor. Experts make it look like a dance, it's amazing to watch.
  • Absolutely awesome. Love it โค๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช
