The City of Dallas is now promising it will notify neighbors before placing an emergency warning siren near their homes -- a change in policy following a family’s complaints this week.

Personally, having experienced tornadoes in the middle of the night, I wouldn’t mind having a siren right next to my house to wake me up and give warning. The two scariest tornadoes I’ve been through happened around 11:30PM and 2:30AM

I can totally understand the homeowner’s concerns, but for her to say she is “embarrassed” by the siren is just a bit too dramatic for my taste.

Oh give me a break, it’s on public property, the city doesn’t need to move it.
  • "how would you feel to this.. shows siren hovering over your house" me who adores sirens "I- YAAAAYYYYYY A SIREN"

"Im embarrassed by this being in my front yard" nevermind all the lives it will save but by all means be embarrassed 🙄
  • I would not mind living by a siren, then i will be the first to know of a weather emergency.

they should consider how far it needs to be from occupied structures to not cause hearing damage to the residents. decibel testing before installation close to residential structures should be done so that max db at a window by a residence doesn't exceed the level at which a person might need hearing protection. when that thing goes off, they shouldnt need earplugs to leave the house!
  • When my father was a kid, he had a tornado siren right next to his house. Now this thing was a big-ass CITY tornado siren, and was used for the entire tiny town. And better yet, it was tested every day at 12 pm. Yep, you saw that right. Every. Fucking. Day. It was so loud and strong, it rattled the entire house. This family should consider themselves lucky!

You moved to Dallas and complain about tornado sirens? GENIUS
  • Omfg they should be happy to be near one so they can hear it and have time to take shelter in an emergency .
