The UV Sphere has always been avoided in subdivision surface modelling because of the pinching which happens at the poles. I have a fix for that!
It takes ages to make these!! Please consider supporting me!

Your mention about discussing Industry Standards regarding normals in the future sounds interesting. Looking forward to that.

I think this channel is insultingly underrated :C thanks alot for the tips, man!

Just binged a bunch of ur videos. Amazing work!!

A little sad that these aren't industry-standard due to the normal tricks. But still a great and useful technique to know and I can't wait to see how you build on this!

I randomly stumbled on this video, and it's a godsend; I can finally fix the shading issues on planet Earth I modeled a while back.

Jam packed with amazing info, as always! Thank you Ian for making these tutorials!

Thank you so much that was amazing. I'm a new viewer but can already tell I'm going to be a big fan

Another great portion of knowledge :) Thank you, and can't wait for more! 👍

Great video as always Ian :)

@Ian McGlasham You've clearly been doing this professionally for quite a while. I am a perma-amateur; I have a day job and I'm old; there simply aren't enough hours remaining for me to know it all. I want to model in Blender specifically to create gaming miniatures and 3D print them. What are some search words you'd recommend for me? I'd wager I can become competent if I focus on what I need.

Thank you sir! You are great.

Great Video! Im wondering, are there still plans to make this follow-up video explaining why this trick is not industry standart? ^^
-
Thank you!

subbed, Tips and tricks like these are why I should go to school

Hi Ian...great tutorial...but what if I want to model this same model to industry standard (no normal changes)..do you have a video that shows that workflow and with a Quad sphere?
