Buddy, I'm glad to see you back out on the crappie. Good Luck up North

Great info , especially there's no substitute for time on the water scanning

Great info Brandon! I love getting excellent crappie tips from a bass pro :) It would be great to see some snippets of you swimming your jig through the target area (stump/timber/pile); thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with us!! It is much appreciated!

This is why I eventually want to get a FFS. I've lost track of how many times over the years where I have found what I know to be a good fishing spot loaded with Crappie, only to never be able to get that bait in the right exact spot to get them to consistently bite. You might have 250 fish stacked on one small section of a pile, but unless you know exactly where to pinpoint your bait, you aren't going to get any of them to consistently bite, because they won't move a foot to chase it. I don't mind to fish around, but I don't like to waste my time either, particularly in large lakes, where you might have to search for hours, just to find a decent spot and then rely on luck just as a much skill (if we are being honest) to pinpoint them, without the proper tools to narrow it down. I don't agree with the anti "video game" fishing sentiment, especially from anglers who will run side scan, down imaging and 360, to help narrow it down. Nobody likes to waste their time fishing in dead water, if they were honest about it. I've fished enough with FFS with buddies, to know there is still no guarantee of a bite, even if you can pinpoint locate them. You still have to have some skill how to present your bait and have an idea of what the fish are looking to bite off, even with the FFS, but it sure does give you a fighting chance of not wasting the day, particularly when your next pile is a good distance away, or options are limited.

That stump was ticking all of the boxes. It was on a drop off, off of a point, and in the bend of the river channel. That would be a great place to get a brush pile. 😁👌
