Hope you all enjoy this video🙌 Had a few audio issues, hope it's not too noticeable! EDIT: I made a mistake, I said only generation 1 Pokemon are available, I was wrong, Generation 2 was recently added, amongst other generations, I didn't notice, sorry! If I made anymore mistakes, please tell me, I'm not a Pokemon genius😂 Second EDIT: For those accusing me, this is not a sponsored video. If it was, I would say. I'm allowed to like something and be positive about it.

I gotta say, going from high poly to low poly makes it feel more like vanilla than an actual mod. A new player may never tell! Like your brief overview.

As an OG dev on Pixelmon, it's so neat to see how expressive and detailed the voxel models can be these days, we were so limited in our ability to scale and texture back then. This was our dream when everything first started out, fun times. Blastoise pre smooth models was the best model I'd ever made and I'm still proud of it today.
  • As someone who has been a fan of Pixelmon since like 2013 or 14, as well as someone who's donated money to the mod, I gotta say Cobblemon looks like what Pixelmon was originally trying to be and I'm all for it.
  • The problem with Pixelmon, when I first played it, is that the models are way too sharp and detailed for Minecraft. The main advantage of Cobblemon, at least for me, is that the models still look great while retaining that blocky feel. Sure, it may not have procedurally generated towns, pokemon centers, or NPCs yet, but it still has awhile to go.

I think that the biggest thing Cobblemon had over Pixelmon is that it had Pixelmon’s mistakes to build off of. I’m pretty sure that some of Pixelmons coders are also working on Cobblemon. So they are now aware of what really needs to be done to make the mod really successful. Edit: man I never thought watching L8Games would somehow get me 100 likes an a comment lol

The fact they have placeholder models literally be substitute is both hilarious and promising considering 1. That means they're working on more pokemon, and 2. they can just reuse the model for the move itself whenever they get to battle animations/effects!
  • The placeholder model for pokemon being a substitute doll is an incredibly cute detail

On another video showcasing Cobblemon, a user named Holmes commented a list of changes they'd like to see, ALL of which have been confirmed by the art director of Cobblemon in a reply to that comment. Here's what's been confirmed: 1) Randomly generated structures like gyms and stores with healing stations 2) Evolution animations 3) Battle music, battle animations, real-time battles (aka wild Pokemon will either run or attack depending on the day cycle) 4) All Pokemon will eventually be added (including legendaries) 5) Some Pokemon will be rideable 6) Breedable Pokemon and holdable Pokemon eggs 7) Pokedex 8) Picnics with your Pokemon! :) 9) Hostile NPCs like Team Rocket or Team Plasma that will try to steal your Pokemon I found Holmes' comment on a video by SilverLuck if anyone wants to see more comments made by the devs.

I like how Cobblemon doesn't remove vanilla mobs entirely too. I saw some sheep in the background. Pixelmon struggles with getting things like mob drops and stuff and is entirely dependant on certain pokemon spawning in and your ability to defeat them in battle.

i’m hoping one day we get to a point where we don’t even need to compare pixelmon and cobblemon. i hear a lot of folks describe cobblemon as “a better version of pixelmon”. while i’m glad everyone loves this mod, i hope it can eventually blossom and grow into its own thing. i know pixelmon has been out for like a decade, but imagine the discussion we could have with cobblemon without the shadow of pixelmon looming over.

My biggest gripe with Pixelmon is just how much of a pain it is to just play it with friends. I don't mean setting it up, that's relatively simple. But just the amount of work that's necessary to create simple stuff like Pokeballs. You need a lid and a base and a button and then the lids and the bases require different kinds of metals and apricorns and they need to be put on an anvil or pressed and don't get me started on the other machinery and it's just.... dude, I want to play a Pokemon in Minecraft, not Minecraft but MORE tedious with some Pokemon that happen to run around.
  • 4:20 imagine being in the pokemon world walking outside and seeing someone violantly murdering a pokemon with a sword

The main thing I like about Cobblemon is how it uses Pokemon Showdown's battle code. Pixelmon has suffered from a number of battle bugs coupled with months between updates with no hotfixes. Because Showdown is for competitive battles, it's much more polished, and better yet- pre-made.

There is feature that worth to be mention. If you experienced with blockbench modeling and datapack, you could add your own fakemon( Pokemon that designed by fans ) to the mod as well. They even have official website wiki for that.

I do like that you can actually ATTACK the cobblemon, hope the same comes true for trainers who appear in your base. Also fingers crossed they will allow them to do damage on other mobs. Imagine using them to kill a zombie or something, with the chance to get pokerus or poison from them as a result. :) Edit Seems like I was right after looking at the reddit where one of the devs posted: "We plan on allowing Pokémon to be able to fight vanilla mobs alongside the player, hopefully with the ability to command them to use moves on mobs. It's a system that will take a fair bit of development time though, so we haven't gotten to it yet. It's likely something we'll start on sometime within the next few updates. " Good, needs more realism tbh. Plus then you can add cobblemon with other mods tech, magic, etc. Imagine using them to fight the wither, or Gaia Guardian xP

I remember the early days of Pixelmon where they tried to go for this look, voxel based models instead of the higher poly models they use now... considering how many people play with shaders, I kind of wish they kept voxel models as an option... shading on higher poly models is a fair bit more intensive and can make or break the experience. I also always found the implementation of high poly models a bit jarring, it's minecraft, mobs should look like they belong in the game...

as someone who has worked previously on a pixelmon server, im extremely glad another mod is finally taking its place. Pixelmon was so buggy and unstable that it made doing anything with it extremely frustrating, especially on the scale of a large server that gets around 100 players during the day. Organizing tournaments where every other battle had to be restarted because of the game bugging made me want to rip my hairs out. I really hope cobblemon takes over
  • I honestly cannot wait for Cobblemon to continue updating, some Pokemon when you go to sleep in a bed will act like tamed cats and will walk into the bed and fall asleep on top of you which is especially adorable with Piplup because it just hunkers down like penguins do xD

2:55 "Only generation 1 Pokémon can spawn in your world" Immediately shows Stantler
