This video is an overview of how to hook-up a U-Haul Trailer (ones that are equipped with brakes) to your vehicle. This is just an overview, however. If you are going to do it yourself, go to uhaul.com and download the users instructions first before attempting this procedure on your own. Thanks for checking it out!

Great explanation. I love this man.

I just got done renting and using the 6X12 enclosed trailer and you have to be kidding it had NO tongue  jack. I am fortunate that I have some jacks of my own I could use but the weight of this trailer is too much for most to lift by themselves when returning a trailer to an unattended site. Please put a jack on this thing.
  • Always connect the breakaway chain to a location on the frame. Not the same location you use for the 2 safety chains! And it's always a good idea to cross the safety chains so if the trailer did come off the ball it has a chance of it falling down and being supported by the crossed safety chains.

this guy must not like to turn with his trailers. there's a difference between dragging your chains and having ENOUGH slack to be able to make sharp turns.
  • @pureoffroad in case it falls off the safety chains would keep it close to the vehicle so no one gets hurt

Does any of the uhaul trailers have an electric brake?

@happy4579 had a similar problem from them before too. All the wiring did something it wasn't supposed to do, and the people working there only knew how to unplug the wiring, then replug it back in, saying "does it work now?".

I need to back it up onto a hilly drive way. How do I bypass this surge brake?

I just rented U-haul 6'x12' double axle trailer and for my surprise there is no jack when I need to unhook ? So now I have to find a solution of this problem - and I ma not happy at all about that surprise.
  • Thanks for the vid. What size hitch ball do I need for this model trailer?
  • @hg2.
Well organized presentation, but needs a lapel mic for better audio.

nice having a jack. Roxanne in customer service just told me that trailers don't come with jacks. I rented a 6 x 12 cargo today and will never use uhaul again. Hurt my back heaving that bloody thing up, ridiculous that it has no jack, not road worthy in my opinion just for that never mind having foot of snow on it. Maybe some day a customer having to stand on the fender to clear snow will fall and die or be paralyzed, I was lucky today. What is the point of a reservation if paper work is not ready, and trailer is froze to the ground covered in snow, then they charged me double for being 15 min early even though it took me an hour to hook the @#$% thing up. Jason at Uhaul wanted to argue with me about having snow on top being road worthy. I would like to disconnect the trailer and use my vehicle while its being unloaded, no way that even 4 men could lift that thing, that is another lawsuit waiting to happen. Very low bar for customer service and they do not even meet that low standard.

With how the brakes function, will the trailer brakes be actuaded when reversing?
  • @nahteconnor
i always wonder what the two black rubber things are behind the surge brake?
  • @brettduffy1992
Wouldn't The surge breaking prevent you from backing up because the brakes would press on
