Kaoru and Sentaro save the day when that Beatles guy's show got disrupted due to technical difficulties. Their temporary stint turned out to be WAY better than the gig they're supposed to save.

Anyway, the songs featured in this duo are My Favorite Things, Someday My Prince Will Come, and Moanin'. Enjoy.

Lastly, I do NOT own Sakamichi no Apollon, anything associated with the show, or the music used in this clip.

Uploaded the same clip but with the speech muted. Nothing but music.

It's sad, but this is unfortunately one of the underrated shows. D:

A truly remarkable and beautiful scene. I love how this one performance sums up everything that has happened up to this point. Kaoru's feelings for Ritsuko, the bond between Kaoru and Sentaro, Kaoru's discovery of jazz and learning to improvise freely rather than always striving for perfection. All of it is summed up here in just a few minutes with almost no dialogue. Kaoru and Sentaro are having a conversation, expressing their thoughts and feelings about everything they've experienced together in the best way they know how - through music.

Am I the only one who cried watching this scene?

Kids on the Slope is another great anime series bringing music into the central theme. Shinichiro Watanabe had also directed two other series previous where music was central to the storyline, those being Cowboy Bebop (jazz and western, even some heavy metal and funk), and Samurai Champloo (hip hop). If you're an anime fan and into different styles of music, check them out!

It's been three years since I've watched this, and yet I still come back to the soundtrack for jams.
  • Awwwwww man, when Kaoru came in with Moanin, I got so many goosebumps! love this performance so much! This anime should absolutely go down in history as a classic.

Kaoru: Can we get it all back? Does a break at the same time Yup yup, it's definitely all back

Animators, sound designers, musicians, production assistants, voice actors, marketing teams, concept artists... I could go on.

Watching this still makes me emotional.  It was also awesome to see the pictures of the real city, train station, even the place where his Mother worked in real life photos. It seemed like very little changed aesthetically from then to now.

2:34 my god that lick is ridiculous. No way this dude got his chops that good so fast.

burst into tears every time I watch this part. So much emotion storms in such short time.

I couldn't help but squeal when I heard Moanin' since its like their theme song; the first song they've shared :D

What I find interesting about this anime is the fact that they incorporate a Jazz tune written by Bobby Timmons titled "Moanin." The composer and the composition are both underrated.
