Katakuri and King: Parallels You Missed

Among the tireless debates on who beats who in a 1 v 1, I see pretty much no one talk about these characters thematic parallels and dichotomy. Through comparing and contrasting their character arcs, I think I come to some pretty neat conclusions here. Let me know what you guys think in the comment section. Maybe another video like this in the future?

4:38 Apologies for the three seconds of black screen here. That was a dumb oversight on my part. Hope it didn't bother any of you too much!

The story of the Big Mom family always makes me so sad. It’s complex and messed up and I would totally read a story of how they pick up the pieces after Mom’s death and find themselves under Katakuri’s leadership. Great video!
  • Now a I understand why king has no conqueror haki because he has no will

I absolutely love this analysis. I never truly saw Katakuri as a villain and this solidifies everything. He was an "ANTAGONIST". Not a villain
  • @SparktehFox
People are far too quick to shut out Katakuri and call him weak despite what actually happened. Excellent video!
  • I could never get enough of these. It’s so insightful and makes you reevaluate every character

At first glance before pressing in this video i thought it was going to be some simple parallels but woah what a prestigious well thought out video, you are definetly one of the new generations greatest one piece content creators for sure

Wonderful video, characters who wear masks and why are some of my favorite things about One Piece to talk about, so this video was a treat. Katakuri hiding away his individuality and closing off his heart with a mask, not showing weakness, and taking on a role that should belong to another. Maybe I'm over thinking this, though a lot of that sounds incredibly similar to parts of Kiku's story. The youngest of the group, nor is she the leader, yet was the only one who stepped up to deal with the traitor situation. A situation that should have been the responsibility of the leader of the group, but as was said about Wano's culture in chapter 1047 "disagreeing with a decision a woman took all of her courage to make does nothing but shame her." If the others don't have the heart to do cut down their former friend, well, at least Kiku is used to closing her's off. Fate handed her a ill-fitting role and left no other options but to become a samurai. Luffy picked up on this within hours of meeting her. He was so impressed by Kiku early in the arc, not because she was an emotionless samurai, but because she reminded him of Shanks. Ignoring the jeers of a crowd and opting to shame the sumo guy, rather than needlessly kill him. Wano's culture failed Kiku, made her believe she couldn't be who she wanted to be. It's this lie which Kiku was telling herself that Usopp confronts her about. A perfect foil to Kuina, driven home by how Zoro interacts with Kiku early in the arc. Kuina believed her being born a girl meant Zoro would surpass her one day, not because of effort, but because of a circumstance of birth, a biological excuse. King told Zoro that he is "biologically incapable of defeating him."

your videos always have something that i never noticed whether it be symbolism or dualities etc... i love it
  • I hope one day Katakuri becomes a Strawhat Grand Fleet commander in some way. The guy does deserve a spot to fight for a more free world. King shows how different he is compared to a fellow yonkou commander that did not subjugate himself.
  • Your essays are fire and always expose new layers on characters i thought i understood rather well. Real talent, keep it up. (More OP and ATLA)
  • Your analysis videos are extremely engaging and well written and you make points I haven’t seen anyone else make. Extremely top tier content!!

Banger analysis as per usual, casually became my fav analysis channel over 2 months

King and Katakuri are the best looking designs among the 1st yonko commanders in my opinion cool and very intimidating I believe King wants a better world instead of a bad one King betrayed himself like you said by assisting Kaido become a tyrant in other words Kaido was the wrong man he sided with I truly believe he was nice guy before Kaido met him. I Really hope we see him again for the final war I want to know more about Lunarians I imagine all races of the one piece standing up against the corrupted leaders for the final war that would be great. It is tragic to think he's the only one left among them but now that Kaido is defeated King will definitely or probably realize Luffy is Joyboy chapter 1049 kinda of links the point I'm making. Kaido is explaining King who Joyboy is by saying ''if he's the same man you're waiting for King then I think I know who Joyboy is. He's the man who shows up to beat ME int the future in that case I suppose we'll never see him'' King may realize his mistake going forward for the series because as we speak he's now in the hands of the WG basically going to the suffering he endured without he's mask is even worse he hided his true identity from the WG for a long time the likelihood of him getting tortured or killed (which I REALLY hope he doesn't get killed by the corrupted leaders of WG) is possible that is why I want to see him again in the series with all that said great analysis you did on both characters
  • oda's depth never ceases to amaze me, thank you for enlightining us of these nuances
