As a Muslim, what the son did is one of the major sins in Islam. The importance of a mother in Islam is emphasised by Gods words in the Quran ( 17:23 ) And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good treatment. - Allah elevates the importance of parent respect with not worshipping others besides Allah. So imagine a person who kills his own mother... the day of judgement is the accountability day.
