Dragon's Dogma 2 as a whole is a great game, but in this video I wanted to take a look at interesting mechanics on their own

0:00 Intro
0:21 Limited Fast Travel
2:38 Restricted Open World
4:19 Combat
6:47 Non-Regenerative Health Bar
8:57 Vocations

One thing I like about the super awkward period after trying a new vocation is how it really pushes you change up your pawns to something that compliments your new vocation, it also makes it so much nicer to go back to your favorite vocation and rehire your pawns that you’ve developed the deepest connections with. I’ve gone back to fighter and warrior several times at this point.

On fast travel, I agree with you -- I really liked how restricting it was at first especially, but I'll admit, I used a mod increasing the Ferrystone drop rate, but used them when they seemed necessary. I still traveled on foot a lot and used Oxcarts from time to time. In subsequent playthroughs, I'm absolutely going ham on fast travel though.

I like the vocations, just like the first game. The reason for the vocation is in these vocations there are attributes that can be used in other vocations. Like in the Thief vocation, the Subtlety attribute "Decreases the likelihood of being targeted by foes" This skill should be in both Mage & Sorcerers Augments

Damn, thats a really good, high quality video, im really surprised that it has so little views, i hope u get a lot of subscribers and become a big youtuber my dude
  • In regard to the vocations, you can choose to master a few vocations rather than level all of them up. There's no need to play all of them, some things are just a matter of choosing to play the way that is fun for you, rather than thinking you have to max your stats or augments.

I think they should have split the skills into weapon and proficiency skills. where weapon skills require the weapon, but proficiency ones can be pulled of regardless of weapon, like leaping, sliding, planting bombs, recovering stamina, shouting etc. Then as you level up and gain these skills you can change weapon and change weapon skills but keep the proficiency skills you have unlocked and want to use. Like you say, there is no reason once you learn to leap and slide as an archer that you can't do the same thing when your a fighter

So I've explored most of the game world while still being in the beginning of the game main quest wise and there are too many quests that span multiple towns, that take you from Vernworth to Bakbattal to the Arbor, there are enough portcrystal's and oxcarts to make it work, but if you don't advance the main quest, the oxcart to Bakbattal isn't available and finding the other portcrystals requires googling it instead of being intuitive. Like I'm currently in the Volcanic region and I was like, is there a portcrystal nearby out this way and nope, I have to go back to areas far away to get one. I wanted to save the tree and she gives you a ferrystone suggesting we use it, but I put my only portcrystal in the Arbor, so the ferrystone was basically useless. I also thought the elf quest was what was needed to unlock dwarven smithing, it's not though, there's another quest in Vernworth that sends you back and forth that unlocks it, when you talk to the dwarf, there should be a quest to unlock dwarven, not locked behind a quest back in Vernworth. When you limit fast travel, you should also limit fetchquests between major towns, unless, you know there were some easier way to get portcrystals, like spending real money...

If combat could have been reminiscent of Street Fighter. Combos like that would be pretty cool.
  • @SodoMojo22
    Dude, that character... Great breakdown.
  • @cameron2286
Ngl I kind of need to go play this game now
  • I love your analysis. 100% agree. Subbed, and dove into the rest of your content after this. Keep going, man. You're gonna make it! Lurve.
  • Good video. IMO, your wildest take is on the combat. I saw someone else already said it, but the idea in theory is to treat it like a character action game (like DMC), or a fighting game even, where the point is to style on the enemies as hard as possible. I think the observation does highlight something that a lot of people are indirectly sensing, which is the combat has a lot of interesting mechanics and skills, but you can almost entirely not interact with them because of how easy the game ends up being. Like, lack of enemy variety is a huge complaint, but every enemy has a unique tactics that it employs. It just doesn't end up mattering because I can spam light attack very easily. Also, the vocation system is just the standard JRPG job system a la Final Fantasy Tactics, Bravely Default, etc.
  • @SolarEidolon
Great video man! I don't agree with everything you said, but it was still an excellent analysis and I like your style. I'll have to watch some more from you.
  • 10 portable? All I found and seen online was 7? Now I have to check again!🤦🏻

honestly the only thing i didnt like about the game was the use of stamina while out of combat, like if you're going to limit the fast travel at least allow us to run to our destination without having to stop every 15 secs cause my character is out of breath lol but once you reach end game you can get ferrystones everywhere so on NG+ fast travel is not even a problem anymore.
  • @josevitorcalfa2
My dood, good points. In general, good video. About the combat, you need to think about DD as an extension of DMC. Play Stylish as you can.
  • @SuperAp0calypse
On combat, in Dark Arisen combat could be harder due to (shock horrow) - hard mode. This is lacking in the sequel, and hopefully will be included with dlc.

Didn't like how lazy they were telling the story and didn't like how fast enemies spawn or how they all fight you when you show up and they were fighting. Why would a Griffin, chimera, and golem work together
