UNIQUE COACH SERVICE ! - DOHERTYS TRAVEL Glasgow-Eire/Ireland (via P&O, Larne, Derry & Letterkenny)

Published 2023-07-02
When I saw this mentioned on Facebook I just had to try it. Dungloe-based Dohertys Travel operates a twice-weekly coach service from Glasgow to Dungloe via the P&O ferry to Larne, Derry and Letterkenny. At ยฃ75 between Glasgow and Derry, it could be cheaper to fly with Loganair.

** Some may notice I refer to the city as Derry and not Londonderry or even Derry/Londonderry through most of the video. This is purely for brevity. In fact the local government district containing the city is called "Derry City and Strabane" and most residents (Catholic and Protestant) also refer to the city as Derry.

Filmed June 2023 | Glasgow, UK.

Hi Scott, I reckon you and @steve-marsh should do a collaboration. A recreation of Planes, Trains and Automobiles but across Europe to get back home! It would be epic!

I took this bus from Dungloe to Larne back in 2003 after a bike crash just outside Dungloe the same day. That bus was the biggest piece of luck I have ever had on my journeys as Dungloe is in the middle of nowwhere. By accident, and with bandaged legs (my own work), I found the bus station and the bus leaving 30 minutes later. I was back in my flat in Belfast 4 hours later. I am glad they are still around.

Good video. Terrible looking lunch on the ferry. Also as a trade member i could never P & O.
  • The food looks totally rank. I'm glad you suffered so we don't have to. Likewise the journey.
  • Welcome to the North West Scott! Donegal is a gorgeous often forgotten county in Ireland. It's sparsely populated with no rail links to the rest of the country and also a roughly 5-mile county border connects Donegal with Leitrim and the rest of the Republic. It is possible to fly to Donegal Airport (with loganair from Glasgow) but onward connections are limited and you will need to check with local link buses, taxis, or car rental. Donegal is also home to one of only two domestic flight routes in Ireland going to Dublin and the other being Dublin to Kerry Airport located in Farranfore (15 minute walk to the train station) between the county's biggest towns Killarney and Tralee. The former is worth a visit if you love walking as it's home to one of Ireland's national parks. A potential idea for a video sometime. Love your videos!

Thank you again - these reviews are a LOT more informative and useful than seeing someone farfing around in Business/First class on a jet somewhere on the far side of the planet....
  • @JohninRosc
Enjoyable and very watchable video as always. Many thanks.
  • @steve-marsh
Scott you always find the obscure routes, that's a few buses you've driven across the sea eh? Well done :)

You always seem to bag the best seats! Great videos - thanks!
  • Great video, Scott, beautiful day for the trip. Cheers from Oz.

Sounds like a really good trip going by coach and on the ferry. Very nice.
  • Another recent service that has been reinstated is the former Eurolines London - Birmingham - Dublin coach service. Now being run by Bus Eireann. I think it runs twice per week.
  • This is a joint venture between 3 Donegal based private operators. Dohertyโ€™s, Dungloe Bus Feda, Ranafast John Mc Ginley, Gortahork. They take turns going over .
  • Hi Scott love your adventures ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘

Youre making me want to go back to Ireland. I did a Caledonian Ttavel coach holiday to Donegal last year and I loved it, so I'd be Interested in doing one of these buses sometime. Thanks for the info re. tickets.
