For those who are going to claim that the choice of Harris at this convention was not democratic, well, neither is the general election or the primaries. We operate under a representative democracy, seeing as how it is impractical to gather all 250 million American adults together in the Nevada desert, stacked in piles of 5,000 people each to vote on aid to Ukraine, the marginal tax rates or presidential candidates.   In the general election, you are voting for electors to represent you in choosing a president in December. In the primaries, you are voting for delegates to represent you in choosing nominees in July or August. If the delegates that the voters selected from February to June want to vote for Harris, then that's who they vote for, particularly when the person whom they had pledged to vote for is, by his own choice, no longer available as a candidate. (And no, Biden was not forced out. The only way he could be forced out would be for the delegates to vote for someone else while he was still an active candidate for the nomination.) Secondly, 38 million Democrats voted in 2008 primaries, 31 million in 2016 and 36 million in 2020. A grand total of a mere 16 million were satisfied enough this year with their choices to vote for one of the candidates (a mere 14.5 million for Biden). How democratic was that?
