In this video I show you one of the best ways to prepare and paint an internal door with a roller. There are a few ways in which you can do this, but this is just one of my favourite ways when the door has no grain or brush pattern to follow.
The paint and roller sleeve you use is entirely your choice, but here I'm using a Purdy mini jumbo roller with a White Dove sleeve for smooth surfaces, and applying Dulux Quick Dry Satin Wood

Justin thanks. I'm 75 & am now the only handy person & your video helps a lot as I can't take door off. It would be too hard.

Thanks very much for the links and video mate, much appreciated. Currently trying to decorate my first house so I'm very new to all of this decorating lark! Your tips are absolutely priceless, thanks!

    Excellent. Super clear, thorough, helpful.

Perfect timing as I still have 2 doors to do in my hallway. Been putting it off for weeks lol. Great video as always :-)

Very clear ! I have "wood grain effect doors" which appear to be imprinted cardboard grain laid on the door facings. Any attempt to sand them is like tearing back this thin layer of cardboard. White spirit has done till now in erasing finger grease. But I guess for re-painting I'll have to use a primer and high opacity top coat ( just the one .. .)

What Γ  lovely job ! I am painting 2 that are matt grey, I sanded one door back to its original (old white) colour and am going to paint it with white satin. Could I have left the old matt on as an undercoat? Cheers

Perfect would you recommend a quick drying paint ??? Thank you

Was it lint feom the roller that you were picking off the door? If you remember, i realise this was years ago πŸ˜‚
  • Hi Justin , thanks for doing this door painting Vlog on your channel. I am in the process of doing my Living Room door up both sides . I have sanded and wiped it over to I really need to Prime the door as well before I paint it ? I am using the low odour Dulux Once white gloss paint on it . It is a plain big standard door with no panels in it. ????

Dear Justin, thank you for this great video and for your patient and clear voice throughout. I am unwell in bed but need to paint my doors as soon as I am able to as I painted all the property walls (beautifully!) this summer. When loading the brush, do you use plenty of paint or is less paint better? It is many years since I painted doors and I am not looking forward to the event at all.πŸ˜• All my doors are unpanelled so I assume I shall need to use a larger brush or roller. I have never used a roller brush before for any painting so it will be rather daunting. When I do feel well enough, and when I get the necessary tools together, I shall be checking your video often for advice. I have just thought of one more query. I have no idea whether the original gloss paint used was water or oil based. As long as I follow your instructions on sandpapering etc., will this in turn mean I can use a water-based gloss paint which is my preferred choice? Thank you.

Thanks. Great video. Out of interest do you use the roller again if so what’s the best way to clean it please?
  • @sofiarees6815
Loving your videos Justin! We're planning on painting our orange varnished oak veneer internal door this summer, would we use the same technique with a Zinsser 123 primer (2 x) first and then paint with top coat paint (2 x)?
  • @snodge6770
Hi Justin, do you wipe surface down with a wet cloth, when using water based products? πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
  • @davidclark618
Out of interest how much would you charge for doing a door ? Thanks
