The Roland TR8s is not perfect, but it is far from being considered as "bad gear" in my opinion. In this video I response to ‪@AudioPilz‬ latest episode that got me triggered.

  • Thank you for this video as I'm currently curios about buying one as I update my studio. After some research, it appears that several European electronica acts have made the TR-8S a mainstay in their setups.

Bad gear is not about bad gear. Florian mostly shows that gear that draws criticism can be used to create good music. While he makes good points about the gear he reviews, I see his videos as entertainment, almost parody. He reviewed several instruments I love, including some you seem to like as well like the Electribe 2. So no, not triggered because I don't think his show is to be taken too seriously. Also, I really enjoy your content.

I've been following Bad Gear for a long time and all of its releases are aimed at making musicians understand that it doesn't matter what instrument, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses! I'm always happy when a new video about the instrument I have comes out! PS: I have Digitakt and Electribe 2 in my live setup ;)

In the 80s...kids in the USA would say ...."Hey that's Bad brother"!!!....which meant the Opposite of bad. Flo often gives good reviews of Gear....which I believe proves my point. My wife commented once to Him that she watches ALL his reviews....and Now she just plays her Harmonica 😊😅.

De-Esser needed @3:20 😃 Love the interface being from the 90's if that is the case but like you mention the instant flow of features is so nice with the updates. More melody out of this device now. Great for adding other hardware through it as a central mix hub for Live performance and probably the best drum machine to do so £555 new. I see a number of Electronic live performances with a TR-8S as a central piece with a number of devices like a digitakt running through it. For me it is no.

It's funny how people point out your misunderstanding about Bad Gear and you respond by saying "I get it but" and then continue to show that you in fact don't get it. 😅
  • @ashorii
Well said. I've had my TR8s for a few yrs now and it is one of my favorite gear as well.
  • @MurrayDagostino
Dont take it too seriously. I have a TR-8s as well and I find it pretty amazing, he reviewed more gear that I have that I think is pretty amazing, but its just for entertainment purposes.

I love my TR8S with all my heart, but I was also super excited to see Florian cover it on Bad Gear. I can see how it falls short in some ways for someone with extensive experience with many different drum machines, synths, and samplers, so it was interesting to hear that perspective. The rule I made up for myself is this: if Florian covers actual bad gear, then the title "Bad Gear" means bad in the traditional sense, as in not good. - If he covers a piece of gear I like, "Bad Gear" refers to the old school slang use of "bad", meaning bad as in good 😂 I think he tried to do a "Good Gear" show back in the early days and it didn't take off quite as well lol But yeah I love the TR8S, I think it will likely be my primary drum machine for the foreseeable future.

Fair enough. Maybe another redemption story in a couple of years? 😆
  • Bad gear is gear that some people hates but Florian shows how much you can do with it. I have a bunch of drum machines, including the 8s, and the 8s is the best, not only because of the sounds and the ACB emulation, FM and samples, but because you can do absolutely everything on it, including effects and a full mix (plus is a multichannel audio interface). The only thing I think the 8s needs is a proper sound mode.

I’m not triggered by his content as I get the theme of his channel. I too enjoy the TR8S and that’s all that matters. I’m working to be less triggered by others opinions as I’m finding it’s doesn’t provide me any value and takes me away from playing with my toys. People have told me to ignore it. I think they are right.

Roland tr8s je la cherche je crois que je vais l'acheter mai sera t'il possible d'enregistrer les mélodie que je roue sur mon Roland system-1 ?
  • @bestkoreanjesus
i was pleasantly offended by his video. sometimes you gotta laugh at yourself
  • @ladobarnovi221
Such a weird coping. I always advise as a long time Tr8s user, don't get Tr8s.
  • @RaquelFoster
LOL! You're offended that he called the TR-8S "bad gear"... even though he never actually said it was bad? Maybe you're the one who's "just creating content." 😂 Here's how Bad Gear works: He makes episodes about anything that he can find a bunch of hate for, and then he gives a 'verdict' of his own. And his TR-8S verdict was very positive! He liked it so much that he said, "I've been waiting for this for a very long time!" and put it next to three of his favorite synth! The TR-8S is awesome, but it has a lot of room for improvement. It's huge. It has 11 faders, but they're the same plastic faders as the TR-6S. It looks like a toy next to a real mixer. And it has the same screen as the TR-6S. The menu diving is so tedious. Good thing they have a decent app. It would be so much more usable if they gave it the better screen from the MC-707, even if they only gave it 8 tracks like the MC-707. I wish they'd make more drum machines with screens like the TR-707/727 where you can actually see the whole pattern.

The Roland SH-4d got a much harsher review and it’s one on my favorites

BadGear became an advertising show sponsored by gear stores a long time ago. Unfortunately. At least 90% of it.
