Restaurant owner's long battle with homeless encampment ends with call to 911

When you pull into the Eastern Cathay restaurant on Northeast 82nd Avenue in Portland, it appears as if it’s not open. Graffiti covers the walls outside. And once you get inside, you’ll find a dining room closed off by a couple of tables. It's dark and empty.

The owners say the problem rests 50 feet out their back door and in their parking lot. Homeless tents stretch from one end of the lot to the other.

And now, business has taken a nosedive.

It had nothing to do with the 911 call, it had all to do with a TV crew.

Portland’s solution is to ignore it unless a camera crew shows up.

I wonder how police would respond if these people camped out in front of the mayor’s office or police stations.

So sick and tired of putting homeless people ahead of people trying to make money in their community.
