savory.global/ | This in-depth documentary explores Allan Savory and how he has used Holistic Management to completely transform his land in Zimbabwe. See more of our docs here:    • Regenerative Agriculture Documentaries

Holistic Management was made popular in Savory's 2013 Ted Talk, How to Fight Desertification and Reverse Climate Change.

This documentary was produced by Trevor Langham and his crew at Fig Multimedia Tech in Zimbabwe. We share this video in hopes that Trevor's amazing work will reach a wider audience to honor his memory.

About Savory Institute:
Loss of grasslands leads to climate change, floods, droughts, famine, and worldwide poverty. It’s our mission to promote large-scale restoration of the world’s grasslands through Holistic Management.

Holistic Management is a process of decision-making and planning that gives people the insights and management tools needed to understand nature: resulting in better, more informed decisions that balance key social, environmental, and financial considerations.

"Droughts do not cause bear land, bare land causes drought" This man is part of the change that the world needs. now it is our turn to help and educate our kids

It's a sad fact that brilliant people are often not acknowledged in their time.
  • This method of soil rejuvenation is remarkably similar to us organic gardeners "no dig" method where the soil is covered in compost and left to be absorbed into the soil. Both are wonderful and mirror nature, which I just love. Thanks for posting.
  • The biggest threat to sustainable management system are the big money corporations that make and develop fertilisers. This system of holistic management threatens their potential earnings in the ~200 billion dollar global fertiliser industry... Allan Savory deserves a Nobel prize for this work. Truly amazing. Glad his work comes from a fellow African brother high five 🙌

This should be taught in every School and College Worldwide.

To hear that it took 3 yrs for an ecosystem to be reborn from a desert is amazing. Great work.

These guys deserve the nobel price!

Absolutely brilliant! I'm now beginning to take Academia with a grain of salt. They have done more to slow understanding the World's secrets than they have to uncover them. Anecdotal evidence in multiple locations on a large scale is fact. No peer reviewed study required.

So proud of my fellow Zimbabwean, I am going to share this with all the Zimbabweans I know and all my friends around the world.
  • The thing is, this is what natural history demonstrates. Vast herds of Hoofed animals roaming the plains moved by predators and seasons keeping lands fertile. The Rockies region saw this with the reintroduction of wolves. They pushed the elk, deer, and such from area to area and it reformed the land, vegetation, rivers, lakes, etc. the restoration of the natural way.
  • BTW he not only used critters to replenish the land, But we also used compost. We had 4 pits, that each accepted a years worth of leftovers, that we didn't feed directly to the critters. We added hand chipped prunings and dead trees, and added that to the soil. Each compost pit was allowed to cure for three years, thus the reason for four. Our family garden was 2 acres that also feed the town relatives. We also supplied most of the eggs and meat for the family besides our own needs. Grandpa did this because there was more than we needed. Like I said Below Old School Technology that modern man had abandoned in favor of Chemicals and poison pesticides.
  • When I lived in Africa, children walked around barefoot ( still do in rural areas and even in towns) Nice to see an 80 year man still doing it. A child at heart. You have convinced me you are right and I praise the work you do. You give me hope for this world. There is a lot that can still be done.

Wow - I’ve been on the web searching through gardening and permaculture videos for 5 years and this is the first time I come across this video - almost like some people don’t want this to be seen - I guess there’s no money in it for the big wigs.

One import note: Kids should be taught this in school to seed the process early so they can improve on the process and keep it going.

It warms my heart and nurtures my soul to see things like this. People able to feed their families while helping to heal the planet is such a beautiful sight 💙
  • Being a science teacher, I completely understand and respect the Allen Sir and his wife and team effort in mitigating the ill conceived earlier models of so called modern agricultural practices. I am bowing down to this magnificent couple.
  • @romlyn99
Basically we need to add organic matter - contour the land - don't burn - and slow down the flow of water across the landscape. I agree with the holistic management system.
  • This is clearly a game changer! To think that we were brought up and schooled to think that more cattle on a piece of land leads to desertification, and I passed my Geography exams on that basis!!
  • 30:15 After 10 years he says I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to get here. It’s exceeded my expectations beyond all imagination
