Reupload. There were some clips missing on the beginning. Rest unchanged.
TLDR: Replayed Mario Sunshine with all the Jankiness and Highlights saved for posterity.

This is just a repost of my earlier post about finishing the game on Twttr
It's done. It had been too long since the last time I saw that number.
I don't know how much is my own bias with the original version and how much is this port really doing strange things, but still was quite refreshing to play it and see how it holds up after all this time.

First of. The water physics when using Fludd are very strange. You can see a prime example of this in the Manta fight clip on 5:18. Even though its a giant counterpoint the fact that I didn't use the original triggers and the joycons don't register pressure. It feels like something is fundamentally different with the way it "cleans".

Second. The Blue Coins are still one of the worst collectibles they have ever made for a Nintendo game.
Only saving grace is that its a set number in every standard level and you can see the counter everytime. Their worst trait, many only appearing on certain shine missions and good luck to spot the differences when you have entire levels in 8 missions.

Third. I personally think Mario movement in Mario Sunshine is just the best kind of control, responsiveness and speed that I would like for every Mario 3D game. And the whiplash I get when trying Galaxy, Odyssey and probably even 3D World (its been a while I might remember differently of how it actually is) is pretty rough. This is why I think I might not do this with Galaxy. It doesn't help that I played it way too late after the Wii generation was over and never got much into it.

4th. I don't believe they've ever tried to replicate again the feeling of interconnected levels in Mario games. Sunshine did this and it was great to see it again. Levels being part of a setting and not isolated block chunks in the sky. I believe Mario Bros 3 and SMW had this. Someone nearby and myself asking why levels in 3d World are on a ice map setting just to enter the level and it's a beach(?). Oddyssey was apparently a bit better but that came at the price at making the Mario World a weird facsimile of our own.

5th. Sadly although I like the interconnection you feel when playing this game. Many missions are quite uninspired or redundant. Piantissimo races and Shadow Mario hunts could've been something better (or harder) and they don't correspond with the difficulty of other shines.
Even taking into account how much time passed and that things that you considered hard (like the Pachinko machine and the Yoshi's Island in Delfino Plaza) now were done easily you still realize how the difficulty of this game it's all over the place.

All in all maybe nostalgia makes me remember this game better than it truly is but I really feel something aside from the controller was missing in this port. Nevertheless it was quite fun and still on my favorite Mario games.
