  • honestly, the working atmosphere portrayed behind the scenes and the way the "leaders" talk to their staff explains beautifully why hospitality has such a challenge finding staff ... from the pretentious head butler to the whistling chef ... interesting, some people still flock to places like this to have them on their resume ...
  • I love the video of the Claridge‘s hotel, and if I had the money to stay, I would choose that over this one any day. The general manager at the Claridge is is so congenial and I really enjoy watching that video and I enjoy the decor much more. I watch the last 10 minutes of this to see if they have any type of success. I’ve been in charge of people working under me and you can get good work out of your people if you treat them with respect so they want to do a good job for you

The head butler seems absolute nightmare to work for or to be around

I love seeing the behind the scenes workings of a luxury hotel. It really gives you an appreciation for alll the hard working people
  • All staff should experience being a guest at the Savoy. Even if just for breakfast which should be an example of a pleasant experience. My family met up just for morning tea there years ago, the service and atmosphere was charming.

Stephen Fry was a great pick for the first person. Truly English. A master of class and intellect. Love him
  • Oliver is clear proof why employees need to hear positive things when they are doing a good job not just be screamed at. Look how he is already contemplating working there and it has to be because of how the head butler puts him down nonstop meanwhile he’s telling the cameras that he could see Oliver doing his job which means he is excelling so why is he getting belittled so grossly? Especially when it’s not the position Oliver wanted in the first place so you’d think he’d get some positive feedback.

Just to prove a point that the old classic traditional gentry etiquette skills is what is missing nowadays in the casual modern era. Love the old butler he really put his heart and soul into it and so proud of his work. Unfortunately I don’t think many young people have a clue about the importance of the work. The young people may think ‘what’s big deal’ yes it’s big deal. People paying a lot of money, so they want to get the service, not only that this creates the job market

General Manager: "How do you feel, I mean it's a genuine question" Doorman: " A bit uncomfortable" GM: "OK...well...we'll adress that"
  • @RWernsing
The concierge lead guy is being so rude to the staff! That's no how you groom your team!
  • This is supposed to be a documentary. It feels like a mockumentary instead. I'd title it "Queens for a Day." The staff are a hoot!!!

Is anyone else obsessed with watching/listening to Oliver!!??.......Like warm butter!
  • @jayneberkley9742
This guy knows his job, people pay a great amount for this service and should get it, anyone who has worked in the service industry, in any hotel knows the standards, from being yelled at by the chef’s , to the chamber maids ,the pressure is amazing, and reputations are on the line, to be the best , to experience a grand beautiful hotel.

Having just watched a series about the Mandarin Oriental. The Savoy looks really shabby in comparison. The Savoy staff were inexperienced and working under a fright driven regime. This showed very obviously and was quite uncomfortable. Unbelievable moments that stood out among many, were covering a stain on the carpet with a wrinkled offcut and gleefully thinking it wouldn't be noticed, and the fact that even a simple and respectful thing like wearing a poppy correctly was overlooked. No reception desk and no luggage in the hall means no beating heart to the hotel. Over all the impression was sadly one out of ten.

If you read the energy of the head butler, you’ll be able to feel how much he actually hates his job, and sadly, himself too. I feel bad for him. I hope he finds self-appreciation and joy outside of being a servant to others. 😢

I infinitely appreciate and respect the hard working staff with all their skills and dedication than I do Talal. Talal just hit the jackpot and owns an oil well or two. Who cares. Those staff are best of British. They're the type of people who put Britain on the map.

I stayed at the Savoy Hotel in 1987 with my parents. And it is a significant Landmark. It's a great Hotel, and now it's even better; it looks excellent and steeped with English traditions, and when you're staying there, you feel like an English prince.
