  • An excellent review. Thank you. I enjoy your enthusiasm for the music and makes me want to explore this box set.

Again, superb review! This has always been my favorite live album. I bought it when it first came out on vinyl, when I was 15! I've always considered it an amazing introduction, to anyone not familiar with Tull. These songs just represent such a great collection of their catalog, up to that point. I have only listened to the BO 5.1 once, on this, but I really need to dig in and devote more time to it.
  • Man I’m with you 100%. My way of experiencing these box sets is different each time, but I always love the books. And you hit it right on the head with the “definitive”thick as a brick. I also showed that clip to so many people as a starter. But what I learned from you in this great review was to really give the surround sound a go … And soon ! I went through the CDs just to see and hear the bonus tracks and I enjoyed the extra banter as well. My first Tull show was the 25th anniversary and roots to branches was right after that! I don’t understand why Ian’s son could not throw down some quick drum tracks for an ‘alternate’ under wraps. In the past, it seems like he’s hinting at it, but that it would be so costly to have studio time for something like that and I just don’t get it. Anyway, thanks for boosting my enjoyment of this set. it was already high!
  • Great video! I have my surround sound up front. And your right it feels your sitting at the stage watching Tull . Steven Wilson mixed it great!! In 5.1 it does float around you
  • I played the shit out of BO when I was younger. Haven't heard a better live album, original mix notwithstanding. Looking forward to hearing this new version.
  • Nice review I’ll pick this up according to your review and BTW I have the same Stand Up tapestry hanging in my man cave media room 😎✌️😎
  • Great, enjoyed that. Totally unfamiliar w/ “Bursting Out”. Now I’m going to go back and listen.

A friend to Jethro Tull is a friend of mine. Subscribed and looking forward to checking some, or all, of your other video. Greetings from Belgium. Cheerio.

The Tull boxes are a triumph in every regard. And don't forget the price point of these boxes compared to say Pink Floyd with the marbles and scarfes. Very reasonable.
  • Thank you for this really helpful review ... just got my copy today and going through the mechanics of ripping to .flac ... I'm pretty anal doing that - making sure I get both Parts 1 and 2 aggregated as a single "album" with tracks numbered sequentially ... and also doing a "rip as one" (using DBpoweramp) to get Part 1 and Part 2 each as 2 x single, seanless, complete tracks ... and aggregating the soundcheck tracks as a single "soundchecks" album in its own right with tracks renumbered appropriately. A "definitive" track listing of the MSG DVD 3 would be helpful ... I believe Locomitive Breath was played mid set (for broadcast) as well as in its usual place... still to watch it. These sets are fabulous and, like you, I would like to see Under Wraps given the full treatment ... including a remix with "proper" drums as well as flat transfer. Ian has suggested that it would not be cost effective ... but if he opened a crowd funding to pre-pay for getting it done then I'd be in .... thanks again for video ... enjoyed it ... CMcG, Aberdeen, Scotland .. p s. the Tull gig in Aberdeen a couple of months back was excellent... great set, high energy, great playing and sound .... maybe a live document of the tour will appear sometime - if so, it would be worth getting.
  • Thanks for the detailed review. Matches my experience, with the added expertise of a sound expert which I am not. There are just two things I was slightly disappointed with about this release. First, I wish it were on Bluray rather than DVDs so we would get the entire album on one disc, as opposed to having to change discs in the middle. Second, because there are no notes by Wilson or an actual "Tales of the Tapes" type text, it's a little unclear why we don't have details of which German gigs the no-Bern tracks come from. Were all the reels unlabelled to the extent that not one of these tracks can be ascertained to be from this or that performance ? Are there no bootleg recordings to compare them with ? I hope maybe diehard fans will help determine at least some of the sources, because I was really expecting to know every last detail about where and when this album was recorded.
  • @Larrybabbin1957
It’s a little different than my first copy which I bought on cassette when released!
  • it would had benn coolo if the live incomplete verison could of (To cry You a song ) had benn included but im not surprised it wasent needless to say why!
  • Not bothered at all about this, the tour show is in the Heavy Horses box. Tull don't change the performance at all so the tracks will sound exactly the same. The video would be nice but let's be honest, you'll play it once in every five years or even longer. So, it's the first one I've not got and won't bother getting. I've even got the original Aqualung box with the vinyl. Won't get Under Wraps either, might get Crest of a Knave, not sure yet. Most Tull albums after Broardsword aren't worth bothering with. The best Tull finished after Stormwatch. If it was around £30 mark I might have got it, for the memory/nostalgia but no way at the current price. I have the music, have the tour, so just not worth the money.
