This sounds sad but I feel like sharing. My wii has Been packed away for 10 years. I pulled it out and found some friends and family Mii's who no longer are with us. Definitely made me sit down.

it is super common to find games in old consoles. it is part of why when you buy used games you pretty much have to check all the cases to make sure they are there. if i get the games cheap enough i am not as picky but i still usually like to check a few. there has been many times where i have ended up with empty cases or dvd's in the game cases.

There actually are some black wiis that do play gamecube games. I bought one yesterday for $36. Pretty good condition too! SD card, gamecube controller and memory card flaps included.

Those Family Edition Wiis are often used by modders to make handheld GameCubes, believe it or not. If the motherboard works, it still has value.
  • @jooglana
Wiis that “dont have GameCube support” actually have GameCube support if you mod the Wii and use an adapter for the controller. The Wii U can even play GameCube games with the gamepad!

I didn't realize it was so uncommon for these old consoles to be played more recently. I still play my PS2, PS3, and Wii.

UAE consoles share the same region code as the US. You've probably come across their games, as they have ESRB logos with the circular logo showing the countries its meant to be sold in.

I remember buying a used wii from GameStop years ago, and it had basically all the virtual console games unlocked/bought. I found it out when I bought a wiishop points card to buy majoras mask only to find out it has already been bought and saw everything was bought.

I one time picked up a Wii from a goodwill dirt cheap several months ago and got Wii Sports version 1.0 inside. (It's the version where it skips the mii lineup cutscene in baseball)

I bought a Wii like a month ago, and it also came with a free game. The system didn't read it though because someone put it in backwards, and if anyone is wondering, it was a newer NASCAR game.

Wii Sports is definitely a great, popular game, so it’s pricing is not surprising. Some retro stores are selling it for $40.

just the sound of the disk going into the replacement disk drive is so nostalgic.
  • The wii at around 3 minutes is an GameCube compatible model (the early ones). You can tell because the non GameCube compatible models(cost cutting models)have the front wii text horizontally instead of vertically

Just bought a wii. I was born in same year as it came out. Have great Memories on there as a little kid. Now every time I go to my grandmas me and my siblings have a little play of Wii party and Wii sports. Not to mention getting my dad to run through super Mario galaxy 1 and 2. While I watch. Donkey Kong was such a great game Too. Can’t wait for it to arrive so I can play again. I have some games coming with the console such as wii sports and Mario galaxy which will be fun to go through agaun

I think the best thing to wonder whenever you buy a wii now is "Does it have the homebrew channel?"
  • @fmdof
i used to flip wii sports from 10-15 bucks all day long on ebay. prices depended on condition, and completeness. then first covid lockdown happened, game shot up to 35 bucks loose! sadly i had no more to sell. but it has leveled to the 20 you said. not bad for a game that's had millions made.
  • @Xzile40
Safe to say this was worth the time. Especially when you pay the equivalent of $20 per wii and sometimes find a $10-20 game in it for free :p
