If you decide to spend 2 million dollars on another school building that you never use, you should probably have enough money to fix your fire alarms.

I used to work maintenance at a public school. The issues that you see are a direct result of people at the top wasting money on things that have nothing to do with the building. Example.... We had a backup boiler that needed the flame tubes replaced and some other reconditioning. This work must be performed by licensed companies and pass state inspection. Cost was going to be around $13K. People in charge did not approve because they didn’t see the point of spending that much on a backup boiler so denied the request. A few weeks later they approved spending $11K on a week long “team building” trip for administration that included zip lining and sightseeing helicopter rides. Fast forward a few months when our good boiler developed a crack in the rear head and had to be replaced. The new head was two weeks out and would take 3 days to install and get inspection. Backup boiler could only be used for four hours at a time and someone had to watch it around the clock. Unnecessary waste of time and money not to mention dangers. When you see issues such as this most people blame maintenance staff but in reality it’s administration and bean counters whom are to blame.

School doesn’t have a bell? My school also doesn’t have bells, but we have working fire alarms.

This should be titled "Lazy School Board Rejects who can't do Anything"

This is the type of school that you’d expect to find in a wasteland. That’s still running with a collapsing government.
  • @ZeroTwo-gd5nq
They probably pocketed that money and took it for themselves

Incompetence, and complete misuse of funding... How do these fools get those jobs to begin with?
  • @ThatCherriePie
most dangerous school because the fire alarm doesn't work?
  • The money that contractor took by not finishing the school is a crime. I want that money to go to the right people! Hunt that contractor down now! That is not fair to take from the government and get away with it!!

One thing that is fine is no school bells. They're all crap.

This sounds like the laziest school in America "we have been sitting here for 2 and a half years"

As a resident of New Mexico, I feel devastated that this is happening.

The worst problem my school has is we have a small janitor shortage, so we had to close something like 5 unnecessary bathrooms to help the janitors a bit. I feel kind of spoiled to be in a school where every single shop room, science room, and hallway between buildings has a fire extinguisher, eye washers (not in halls), emergency showers (not in halls), and other emergency equipment around the school. I hope this school is better now.
