Kings and Generals began remaking its animated historical documentary on the history of the Ottoman empire with the early rise of the Ottoman beylik under Osman I. In the first video we covered the early origins of the beylik, its status among the Muslim states in Anatolia and its early clashes against the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire at Bapheus and Dimbos in 1302 (   • Rise of the Ottoman Empire - Bapheus ...  ). The second episode showed how a tiny beylik became a regional power with the continued battles against the Byzantine empire and other states, including the siege of Prusa (Bursa) between 1317 and 1326 and the battle of Pelekanon of 1329 (   • How the Ottomans Took Over Western An...  ). As the Ottoman entered the Balkans, they had to face the Serbian Empire and the Second Bulgarian Empire, leading to the battles like Maritsa in 1371 (   • Maritsa 1371 - End of the Serbian Emp...  ). The Ottomans continued expanding both in Europe and Asia, leading to the conflicts with many states, including the Karamanids, culminating at the battle of Frenkyazisi in 1387 (   • Ottoman Expansion in Anatolia - Ottom...  ). As the Ottomans managed to defeat their enemies in Anatolia, they now had time to fight against the burgeoning Balkan alliance that formed against them with Lazar Hrebeljanovic of the Moravian Serbia at its head. His confrontation with the sultan Murad I would led to the battle of Kosovo in 1389 (   • Battle of Kosovo 1389 - Rise of Ottom...  ). In the aftermath of Kosovo, Bayezid I takes the power and continues campaigns both in Anatolia and the Balkans. The events in Anatolia culminate at the battle of Kirdilim of 1391, where the Sultan defeats his Turkic opponents led by Kadi Burhaneddin. The Ottomans became the sultans of Rum getting the title of the Seljuks (   • How the Ottomans Became Sultans of Ru...  ). Afterwards the Sultan continued campaigning in Europe, leading to the first major Ottoman defeat at Rovine in 1395 against the Voivode of Wallachia, Mircea the Elder (   • First Major Ottoman Defeat - Battle o...  ). Despite that, the Ottoman advance in Europe continued and to counter it, the king of Hungary Sigismund called a crusade joined by many nobles and retinues from the Balkans, France and beyond. This led to the so called Crusade of Nicopolis - the last major crusade and the battle of Nicopolis in 1396 (   • How the Ottomans Defeated the Last Cr...  ). In the aftermath, Bayezid had a free rein and he blockaded Constantinople. The Roman emperor Manuel II Palaiologos decided to travel to Europe to get help, but got no help in the West (   • Roman Emperor Gets No Help in the Wes...  ). But with the Ottoman expansion in the east Anatolia, Bayezid was on a collision course with another conqueror - Timur, which led to the battle of Ankara in 1402.

    Stefan's Lazorovic's loyalty is admirable
  • @owenb8636
The fact that the Ottomans were able to recover from this defeat and go on to build their empire is really impressive
  • @umutcanocal339
How ironic even when tatars and other turkish lords was betrayed the sultan serbians stay loyal even against great odds.
  • @MunsterBeavis
Bayezid writing his name LARGER and with prettier font is such a comment about our unchanged human condition LOL. Timur, the last great Horse Lorde of the Plains, deserves an updated in depth series, K&G! -- Great video!
  • @podcastler
it is incredible that the Ottomans recovered from such a heavy defeat and the Timurids collapsed soon after
  • @b3ygghsas
I gotta admit, Bayezid really had balls to talk shit to the guy who killed 5% of the world's population and was famous for making towers with the skulls of his enemies
  • @danyboi2976
Even though Ottomans lost the Battle of Ankara, what an move of Bayezid. He ordered him self and his two sons to last stand against a now, massive army. He was betrayed by half of his troops and he still tried to fight back until the last second
  • fun fact: the Great Grandson of Bayezid "Sulaiman the magnificent" helps the Great Grandson of Amir Taimur "Zaheer u din Babur the 1st mughal emperor" to conqueror india, Sulaiman supplied canons to Babur on his request
  • @holyfreak8
The correspondence between Bayezid and Timur is very funny to read😅
  • @Muguratiu
This battle fascinated me since youth. It was a clash of giants. Of really great military commanders. And one of them fell heroically. It's like Hector and Achilles or like Caesar and Pompey. Great video!
  • @Germ_f
Bayezid and Timur sending provocative letters to each other is the ancient equivalent of two powerful world leaders dissing themselves in twitter
  • @mikemodugno5879
I'm loving the Rise of the Ottomans series. Before you cover their fall I would love to see a video(s) about the Byzantine rump-states of Trebizond, Theodoro, and the Morea. Thank you so much for bringing this history to life!
  • @RaidRoyce
You guys really outdone your previous videos on the Battle of Ankara. Tremendous stuff!
  • @mirhaideralikhan
Your use of words, meticulously researched content, and the way you bring history to life through maps and graphics is commendable. It's like embarking on a captivating journey through time. The combination of historical narratives and visually appealing illustrations has made learning history a joy. Love this video. Keep it up

"It's over Timur, I've already written my name in big gold letters, and yours in small black letters."
  • @88kjk75
The epicness of this battle, with it's feel of climacticity, the betrayals, the epic conclusion can't be overstated. The mere fact that you've covered this battle three times now just goes to show it's macrohistorical implications and maybe also gives us the idea about where Tolkien got his inspiration for the Mumakil at Gondor.
  • Ladies and gentlemen, this is a historic moment as it’s the third time Kings and generals covers this battle.
  • @TheStrategos392
Poor Bayezid. An excellent commander who was simply outclassed by a superior and cunning commander in Timor.
