A subnet mask is a number that resembles an IP address. It reveals how many bits in the IP address are used for the network by masking the network portion of the IP address. This video also does a short lesson on subnetting. Subnetting is breaking down a large network into smaller networks or subnets.

  • Can't believe I sat 6 hours in school today, failing to understand subnetting and you managed to successfully explain it in just 18 Minutes. Just wow. 👏👏👏

I have my associates in IT and I’m currently working on my bachelors degree in Cybersecurity and information assurance. I cannot explain how much this helped. None of my classes have explained this subject as eloquently as you!!! Thank you💛💛💛💛
  • Best subnet explanation I’ve ever seen. Been in IT/OT/IoT for almost 40 years!
  • This is the best explanation of what a subnet mask is I've ever heard. Thank you for your content!

Albert Einstein was right, he said: "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough!" this man understands it well that is why everything in his channel is so simple and easy to grasp! teaching is a talent, the will to give your best, dedicated to your work,... there are those who have a good understanding and professionals, but not talented for teaching, some others want to show off, that will ruin everything, that is why sometimes some are not professionals but have teaching talent better than those professionals with better understanding.

I've been struggling with the subnet concept for months now, I have no real experience in Networking. I've watched a lot of different videos, read books, but no resource provided me with the full logic and method of creating a subnet. Now it all makes sense. Thank you!

  • This is some of the best content out there today regarding this topic! Clear, concise, and the visuals are incredibly helpful. I'm honestly surprised this isn't considered "Official CompTIA content" but also grateful it's available free on Youtube!

This short video helped make more sense of this subject than both my college professor and an entire book module discussing it. Thanks a ton for this.

Damn, I'm kind of addicted to this channel's content now. I came here after giving up re-watching my professor's 3 hours lecture focusing on this very concept and using MS Paint to explain. I honestly didn't expect to find myself more interested in actually learning computer network but when I watched this video it helped me understand and made me more invested in learning more about computer network. So I have been on a rampage watching video after video increasing my knowledge. Keep up the good work and please keep posting more videos!
  • I do respect your hard work. Even I could not properly understand this topic in my networking class. But this video is amazing
  • @paulg6340

  • This is the best Subnet Mask tutorial that I've ever had! It's so nice when someone not only understands, but can also teach a discipline.
  • @hopehouston9075
I can't thank you enough for explaining things so clearly! Whoever created the animations nailed it!

Stumbled on this, I've been in Industrial IT / Automation for 30 years give or take, and this is a great explanation, simple easy to understand, great job
  • Hands down this 17:54 minute video gave me 100% clarity in understanding more about the subnet mask and subnetting. Your teaching style and simplistic videos have a tremendous effect! This definitely gives me a boost in preparing for the Network + certification. Thank you!!
