So as a new thing I'm going to start listing corrections to the video in a pinned comment (because we can't have annotations - no - they'd be useful). I'll be adding on more as more comes to light. Corrections -3:35 as shown in the video, I meant Charles IV, not Charles VI. Roman numerals are too similar looking for their own good -7:50 It apparently doesn't snow in Torres Vedras. Big mistake I know, I should be ashamed. -8:52 Instead of saying relentless or unrelenting I said unrelentless, so there's that. -And as usual pronunciation fuck ups are abound

Fun fact: as ambassador Marshal Soult was present at the coronation of Queen Victoria in 1838, and Wellington should allegedly have grabbed his arm friendly and said "I got you at last"
  • @Frankenbutt99
Napoleon should've written a diss track about the Sixth Coalition.
  • @syley5075
Chorizo was more powerfull then the baguette

"I am firmly convinced that Spain is the strongest country of the world. Century after century trying to destroy herself and still no success."
  • Dos De mayo Cinco De mayo France should really stop attacking Spanish nations in May

Some facts about the "Independence war" as we call it in Spain: 1. The french conquest almost every part of the Peninsula, but the only cities that they never conquerer in Spain were Cádiz and Lion´s Island (nowdays called San Fernando, because of Ferdinand VII).It resulted in a 2 year siege, finished with the retreat of the french troups. 2.In Cádiz and Leon´s Island, was proclamed during the siege the first spanish constitution, a very liberal one. But when Ferdinand VII comeback to the throne, he denied to sign it and executed every one who had the same ideology than the constitution. (Called "La Pepa")
  • Let's all respect the awesomeness and badassery of the true hero of the peninsular war: RICHARD SHARPE!!!

I would love to see an episode either on the life of Otto von Bismarck or the formation of Germany. So many other history channels can never get facts straight with the aforementioned topics. I have unwaivering faith that this channel can be the one to finally get it right. Regardless love the channel and keep the videos coming 😀
  • One does not simply invade Portugal , the Spanish knew it , but the French had to learn it too.

I've recently run into some documents about my family that relate to this conflict, while I was searching on the Military Archives of Portugal. Apparently my 6th great-grandfather volunteered, during the Peninsular War, along with his elder brother to join the Portuguese Army, that at the time was under the command of the British Marshal William Beresford. He and his brother volunteered on the 18th of April 1809, being him 16 years old. They were incorporated into an Infantry Regiment, and basically that's all that I discovered, so I dont know if they participated in any of the battles mentioned in the video. However, because of another document that I found on the Archive, I know that my 6th great-grandfather gave entrance in Elvas's Hospital, in May 1809, so one month after volunteering. However the document doesn't specify what injury it was, neither the circunstances in which he got that injury. Either way, it was pretty neat having discovered this information, that no one in my family knew about. LONG LIVE THE ARCHIVES📜, ("the guardians of history") those buildings full of old documents and dust, which have through the generations saved and kept tons of old documents. Documents that without them, we couldn't tell history. CHEERS!!!! 🥂

I'm from Torres Vedras. Great job on that pronunciation! Also, some years ago it did snow in Torres -- it's very rare, but it happens. So don't be too hard on yourself about that hahaha Excellent video, as always.
  • @ahilboy253
Dayum, didn't know Napoleon was that good at roasting his enemies
  • A very overlooked campaign, Napoleon had over 300,000 men tied down in Spain, when you throw that into the mix of the rest of his Russian invasion force that would have swelled his army to up to 900,000 troops.
  • @MrPatrick568
All these British victories can be attributed to one rifle officer, Richard Sharpe
  • @ulf___
So you telling me that Spain is Napoleon's Vietnam? The Spanish guerillas sounds interesting.
  • @canadianguy7291
