SPOILER ALERT! If you don't wanna know the secret, stop reading. They didn't fool me šŸ˜Ž : 2:40 He makes Harvey verify that all cards are different, but then, 2:50 he uses slight of hand to swap in a new deck (out of the frame, infortunately we can't slow-mo verify, but bare with me). 3:00 Penn gives him only a part of the deck and lets him shuffle. In his own part of the deck, he has the same cards, arranged in a certain sequence that teller knows by heart. 3:30 He fakes a shuffle, but actually, he just put the sequenced part on top of the deck. 3:58 Harvey names the card, and now the magicians just have to count out the number of cards to waste before that cards come in. It had to be that. Otherwise, ace of hearts could have been the 52nd card to come out when teller throwing them out. Talk about a long and boring TV moment. But NOW, HERE IS THE BEST PART: You know how, in Fool Us, Penn always gives subtle hints in his speech to the contenders so that they understand he wasn't fooled. Well, he does that all throughout his talking while he does the trick to Harvey. at 2:50, notice that he says "sleight of hand" twice: a cheeky manner to hint at what he was doing right at that moment. He does that hinting several times. 3:33 "not remember the sequence (...) remember the sequence, now REMEMBER" 3:48 "the order will not change" All these sentences seemed a little out of place and random, until I understood they were hints. Even his whole story about being refused at the Magic Circle, which seems to have nothing to do with the trick, is actually there to HINT the fact that he's gonna Hint the secret. 1:17 "We took it as a challenge: can we do a trick that could fool everyone (...) and still give away all the stuff" That trick was nice on so many levels! Even discovering the secret made it interesting at a different level. Slow clap

You know what's so crazy about this trick....I picked the Ace of hearts after looking at Steve's hand

Watch Pennā€™s false shuffle when he gets the cards back at 3:30. The full deck is actually half of a deck which is duplicated. Steve had the same set of cards that Penn had. Penn never shuffles his cards (false shuffle), keeping his set always in the same order. When Pen takes the cards back from Steve, he places Steveā€™s set on top, but then immediately cuts Steveā€™s set to the bottom and keeps them that way. Teller has memorized the half deck order (only 26 cards). When Steve tells everyone which card he picked, Teller simply counts to that card using Pennā€™s set, which is on top, & it will never be more than 26 down from the top. Easy Peazy.

You know you've made it in life and career, when an exclusive organization/club/brotherhood/whatever says, 'we don't like you, but we would like to ask you to donate your memorabilia to us....' Kinda shameless, really...... Wonder how they react, after being jabbed by penn a few times....

Teller: ... Penn: ā€œhear ya loud and clear buddyā€
  • Penn and Teller should have sent the Magic Circle a single prop... a 3 of Clubs card.
