(June 26, 2021) Four-Time World Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis becomes a three-division world champion, securing the WBA Super Lightweight Championship with an 11th round stoppage over Mario Barrios

In a fight that lived up to its potential, Davis and Barrios combined to put on an unforgettable main event in front of a sold-out crowd of 16,570. After a slow opening four rounds in which Davis landed just 11 punches, the fight produced fireworks beginning in the fifth round. In the eighth round, “Tank” sent “El Azteca” to the canvas for both the first and second times of his career. First, Davis connected on a sweeping right hook that sent the former champion to the canvas. Moments later, a straight left hand by Davis dropped Barrios again. The brave Barrios rose to his feet, surviving Davis’ attempts to finish him in the eighth.

With International Boxing Hall of Famer and promoter Floyd Mayweather encouraging Davis in his corner, the southpaw came out rejuvenated in the eleventh round, realizing that the fight could be close on the scorecards. “Tank” dropped Barrios for the third time in the fight, this time with a left uppercut to the body. The bloodied Barrios rose again, only to be greeted with another barrage of punches from Davis. Referee Thomas Taylor stepped in to stop the fight at 2:13 of the eleventh round.

In the final six-and-a-half rounds, Davis landed 85 punches. He landed 45 percent of his power punches (82/182), while Barrios more than held his own, out-landing Davis in six of the ten completed rounds.

With the victory, Davis now holds world championships in three different divisions simultaneously, a feat only accomplished by a few other fighters in history, including Henry Armstrong and Canelo Alvarez.

  • This is one of the most underrated fights of all time. This is a treat for boxing fanatics.
  • When tank said “IM SORRY” to Barrios at the end , in all sincerity , mad respect
  • @onyijenny
I've watched this fight more than 50 times and I'm not ready to stop
  • Out of all of Tanks fights..this one for me ...was one of his best..And I have the utmost respect for Barrios A True Warrior.

After watching Barrios against Ugas and Thurman you can see how great Gervonta is
  • @Oettam_187lbs
That backflip after 11 devastating rounds was cherry on top
  • @AP-rv1qn
Amazing fight. Something about the way the ref embraces the guy after stopping the fight that I find very heart warming also. Almost to say, you're done champ. You got heart but you're done. 💪🖤

Love the way Tank always goes to his opponents corner to hug the loser and his team members. That’s humility and sportsmanship right there. What a fighter Barrios is with a great heart and such a gentleman too. Also liked the way when Tank called Barrios over after his ringside interview so that he also gets to be in the limelight. Well done to BOTH these young men. Tank is going to be a mega star in his own right.

Barrios is a tough kid. He took on Tank and Keith Thurman back to back. I'd like to see if they can build him back up because he definitely has heart and talent.

I’m glad gervonta Davis was able to show his ring IQ and boxing ability. People only thinks he is a knockout artist and puncher but he’s a phenomenal boxer as well. Salute to tank
  • @CarltonCarvalho
Barrios a real aztec warrior. 90% of fighters not making it out of that 8th round like he did after being dropped twice so early in the round.
  • @143Magnes
I had it 95-94 going in round 11th for Barrios. He lost, but he's earned a new fan. Very gutsy lad, respect to both
  • One of the most interesting and exciting fights I've ever seen. Both fighters were on fire displaying their boxing skills, both showed elite defense and tactics. Tank's ability to take away a taller guy's jab was insane, Barrios surviving 8th was insane, this was all CLASS.
  • You definitely can see the brilliance of Tank. He was staying patient and once he figured Barrios out he started to pressure Barrios by taking away barrios' main weapon.
  • Went out last week in SA and barrios happened to be sitting by me and had a great talk about this fight! I gave him hella respect for still getting up no matter those knockdowns later in the fight. He said first knock down it was so fast and quick that his legs were gone but after the second knock down he somehow woke up and got his legs back. Came out strong after that round then BOOM body Shot. I don’t know how he was able to get up after that but the guy is a warrior. Super chill down to earth man. This was one of my fav fight in a long time
