The real reason is that they are too cool for vgc
  • For the distribution thing they should just have an event during every gen like every start of series so its easily obtained. So like series 1, 2, etc all distribute mythicals at the start so everyone has them

The upcoming regulation D format is going to be geared towards the new Hisuian Pokemon and others coming to scarlet and violet vgc. This in my eyes is similar to mythical Pokémon due to the availability only in games you need to buy like regieleki or ursaluna.

“Players that have been playing for an extended period of time and have obtained a mythical pokemon would have an unfair advantage, which goes against the entire point of vgc” Let me introduce to you: Regulation D

Victini would be pretty cool in VGC. Giving accuracy boost to teammates is pretty neat.
  • @xbertron
Banning Mythical Pokemons from VGC is the same way as Steve banned mostly from Super Smash Bros Ultimate . That Phantom MLG caused Steve Op and so on he was banned .
  • @-Wisdom-
if they are allowed they would be everywhere and the label "mythical" goes out the window
  • @jamesfisher4388
You forgot to mention that from gen 4 to 6 dark void had 80% accuracy instead of 50%

If mythicals weren't banned pre nerf darkrai would just destroy everything

the only time that Mythicals were ever legal for VGC play was Series 13 of Gen 8. However, this was a major clusterfuck, as u had Magearna teams running rampant. Soul Heart is like Moxie, but applies if ur own pokemon faint too, not just ur opps. This format was what got me out of VGC for a while, until Gen 9 dropped. But i am getting back into things, and i kinda like the new pokemon from the DLC. I wanna try locals, but idk if i would be good at it. I think a BO1 is better, yet more frustrating, bc it adds a bit of mystery in it as u dont know what ur opp has which is both a blessing and a curse, bc u can get fucked over in some cases. I did a locals before, before Covid, but it was BO3 instead, but this was also in the early days of SwSh meta, and Open Team Sheets werent a thing yet, bc we had no need to reveal our items, moves, and Teras. I wanna say tho, when i did play my VGC locals the very first time, i did pretty decent. i made Top 8 (3-2 Swiss), losing to the Timer once against an Iron Defense Corviknight i couldnt get past, then losing to the 1st place winner, and then in Top Cut, i lost to Joe UX9 aka Joe Ugarte, who came second, when he put all my mons to sleep with GMax Butterfree and his sun team. Joe is still someone i look up to (even if im older than him), and we dont talk as much anymore but i still follow him and his accomplishments.

Mythicals are just outdated at this point, they may offer such valuable prestige to the games back in the day as Mew pretty much saved the franchise. But with technology advancing so far that you can't really hide anything as much and pokemon being just too plain big of a franchise, so I don't see the point in limited distributions anymore. Not to mention how lame as shit new mythicals are at being mythicals cough zeraora cough but that's another topic.

It‘s so weird that Mythical Pokémon are banned from VGC, while their signature moves aren‘t. Wouldn‘t it still be unfair?

“All participants have equal access to the Pokemon they can use.” Yes, because I, VGC Guy #331—who did not buy Legends Arceus because it didn’t have VGC content—appreciate my equal access to Ursaluna and Sneasler. Or my equal access to Urshifu, who’s locked behind three paywalls (an old, dead game; its DLC; and the Pokemon Home subscription service).

I wish I could put in a filter when doing online battles to make it so I am not facing legendaries or pokemon that can not breed. Just make the game soooooooo much better and more fun when it comes to online battling as it would let me avoid overpowered and boring mons.
  • I love hoopa and unbound hoopa is my most favourite mythical....

I feel like this argument that mythical pokemon would break the game is starting to become weaker and weaker as times goes on. First of all we now have regualr legendaries that are far more broken than most mythicals, so I don't think that is a very vaild point. But second of all these days lots of mythical are no longer tyed to events. Many can be catched as many time as you want as long you have the right game(s). So why don't they unban at least those? That's just how I see it at least.

We can actually see the impact that mythicals would have on VGC by looking at smogon's 6v6 doubles. While not a 1:1 format, they are very similar and can give insight to what the format might look like if they were not banned. Imo, the only absolutely broken mythical in doubles is magearna. Magearna's ability is different to others such as moxie or beast boost. Those require the user to acquire a KO to receive a boost, while magearna simply needs any pokemon on the field to faint in order to receive the +1. This very quickly snowballs out of control, as any time an ally or foe is sacrificed on the field, mag gets consistently stronger. This makes it a race to remove mag as soon as possible, which can be easily taken advantage of. Combine that with the best typing in the game, insanely good bulk and special attack, fleur cannon for burst damage, moon blast or flash cannon for solid 0 drawbacks STAB, dazzling gleam for spread damate, focus blast or thunderbolt for coverage, and TWO modes of speed control in trick room or shift gear. In doubles Ubers last gen, magearna was actually considered more viable than *xerneas*. It ranked higher than almost every box legendary in the game. That tells you how strong it is. Jirachi used to be another doubles ubers mon bc of its access to follow me and a million other support moves. You could redirect, speed control, buff/debuff, or simply flinch the opponent. With fake out being as strong as it is, a decent speed steel type that could potentially fake out every turn could be deadly. Hoopa and mew are excellent doubles pokemon in their own right for the power and utility respectively, but they werent broken by any means. Diancie and Mega Diancie (RIP) were two of my favorite pokemon to use in doubles gen 7, but neither was broken either. Diamond storm being a spread move is crazy good when you have two chances to get the defense boosts, but the typing having so many weaknesses made it hard to overcome. Regular diancie was a trick room setter/sweeper, while mega functioned more as a glass cannon of course. Finally, since i mentioned jirachi's flinching shenanigans, i should mention Melmetal. While currently dexited, melmetal is another ubers caliber mythical. Double iron bash's huge flinch chance very rarely comes into play in singles because of how slow it is. But in doubles, trick room is so much more viable that it actually becomes a huge problem. While jirachi's flinches are a minor annoyance dealing some chip damage, double iron bash hits like a freight train while incapacitating the opposing pokemon. Under trick room, this thing is unstoppable, and its bulk makes sure it sticks around. It's not magearna levels of broken, but its still far too strong for VGC. Overall, doubles OU proves that the vast majority of mythicals wouldnt be a problem for VGC, and many like victini, hoopa, and mew would add a lot of fun depth to the tier. But whoever was in charge of balancing magearna must have completely skipped doubles altogether.
