its a really good album albeit not quite the pure concept record Bobby has talked up. English Town & Sunk in Reverie really have nothing to do with the themes of the other songs...which leaves 7 tracks. And a couple of those are really more of an internal dialogue. Personally, I would have added three instrumentals (two bookending the album, akin to Bryter Layter). The song writing on the whole is solid, the playing great and arrangements wonderful, if sometimes a little unimaginative. The main gripe I would say I have with it is the combo of their voices. Bobby has done a few duets in the past (Over & Over with Linda Thompson was utterly beautiful) but his voice has never sounded better than when blending with Denises during their live shows, in terms of tonality. JB's voice just doesn't make me believe they were ever lovers, they just don't gel for me. Have a play of the new Cat Power song and tell me that bobbyG & Chan wouldn't have made a blissful fit.  7/10.  Oh, and that cover is utterly fcking dire, one that you'd return ya kid's xmas toys back to the store if they presented you with that lump of cack. Roll on Demoadelica though, which is going to be so interesting. Haven't been so excited about hearing an album for years! Cheers for you review/thoughts x
