Who’s your favorite crooner of all time? America has given the world plenty of great ones, such as Frank Sinatra, but so has the UK. Englebert Humperdink wouldn’t refer to himself by that title. He’d prefer the title of a contemporary artist because it acknowledges his range and artistry.

His life has still been one of a crooner, though. His fans call themselves Humperindckers. He even has to wear layers because the female ones tear his clothes off during concerts. Englebert is a shy man who isn’t seeking attention. He only ever had eyes for one woman his whole life. It was love at first sight when he met his wife Patricia. They also had four children together.

She served as the power behind his throne. She encouraged him to keep going and suggested the best moves for his career. They were in love and worked as a perfect team. That was until the day that Patricia got sick. She battled Alzheimer's for a decade, and then the couple both got COVID-19. Englebert tried everything he could think of to help her hang on, including stem cells, holy water, acupuncture, and more. He asked for prayers from his fans because he knew they needed a miracle. Patricia passed with her family all around her. They got to see her final moments together, quietly and privately.

The grief was too powerful for Englebert to talk about for quite some time. There were several months when it seemed like it could stop the singer’s long and prosperous career. Every lyric of his songs reminds him of her. How could he ever perform them again?

I'm a Metalhead and have been since high school in the mid-80s. However, I've been in love with "After The Lovin'" ever since I first heard it in 1976 at the age of 9. Not only have I never stop loving that song, I actually now love it more than ever. It is one of the greatest songs ever recorded; a perfect song in my opinion. I've done it at karaoke a few times and intend to do it again many more times. Engelbert Humperdinck is the man with the golden voice. 🙌🏻

My favourite song is Les Bicyclettes De Belsize. Englebert's soaring vocals set to a lovely waltz melody. I have it as a vinyl 45.
