I left the big city of Toronto to move onto 40-acres of Canadian wilderness with a magical river. I am building an off-grid homestead with multiple log cabins and structures from the timber on the land.

To all my subscribers, STRENGTH AND HONOUR! 🫡🤝⚡️🐺🌲

  • If you haven't already, with the amount of rain you get you should consider installing a rainwater collection system.

Just reading through the comments after yet another epic episode…I’m gonna say this audience goes down as the most encouraging, supportive & givers of best compliments on YouTube. All deserved of course but noticing yet again the compliments/comments are absolutely precious! 🥰🥰🥰
  • Absolutely love that you found Thors Red Oak in the youthful episodes of Wild Homestead. Its the perfect time stamp for the channel! As your Alofs empire grows, so does Thors Red Oak! Can't wait to see how big it grows in years to come. Also a constant reminder that Thor is always watching over you... OOOOOGGGAAAA BOOOOGGGAAAA

At the start the cabin looked like a little homestead from the air. A big thankyou to your neighbour for helping you out, we appreciate his contribution to the evoulution of the Wild Homestead.

    There’s nothing like a good neighbor 🙏

For the bears make sure you mark your area. By this I mean start peeing around the perimeter of your home site. Especially being a man this will go along way to keep the bears out of the sleeping area. They mark their area, you need to mark yours.

"This is a tragic world. You cannot live your life in fear, or you will forsake the best parts of it". Have courage my brother and embracing life despite its challenges....

You have some bad ass neighbors! Massive shout out to them and how helpful they have been.
  • I love how you work so diligently on the small details, learn, adapt, overcome and always deliver something of the highest quality James, it's fascinating. Great video, as always, have a great week Sir!

Clearing an area all around your cabin has many benefits, two important ones are it gives you a fire brake you don’t really want trees within falling distance of the cabin and it helps with spotting bears and other predators around your cabin you don’t want any surprise attacks as you step out the cabin. 👍👍👍👍👍
  • Don't change the tilt on the door sill. The door will still swing in and the water will run off the sill, When we made our own sills we used to make them from Oak and they were cut and planned with the slope in them so water would run away from the house. The sills we made did have a flat spot right at the door to floor part of the sill.
  • Watching you build that cabin by hand is truly inspiring, James! Your dedication reminds me of the strength and perseverance of the Norse gods and the craftsmanship of the Roman era. Keep channeling that Thor-like determination—your Wild Homestead is becoming a legendary fortress! Fortes fortuna adiuvat!
  • Once you get your field around your cabin leveled out, you should think about investing in a proper brush hog maybe one that attaches to the four wheeler , I’ll tell you those fields grow up quick
  • If considering building a new door. Consider getting a router to ship lap boards. On the interior side run 2x’s horizontal over the vertical lumber & trim out to the z brace. This will not only increase the strength of the door but will help seal air paths into cabin. I’d keep the sill sloped but cut a flat top where door lands/resides. Keep up the good work!
  • Imagine if Steve Wallis shows up as a guest! man what a show that would be!!! Ooga booga
  • Shawn James lined his front door with leather to help seal his front door cracks! It looked beautiful too!
  • The MOST enjoyable channel on Youtube, well done James, love these.
  • Every week I’m more and in awe of your continued drive and work ethic. I’d have been killed by simply trying to survive the winter when you were laying the first logs. You must be a very proud man to have achieved all you have thus far.. bravo!
  • @TheFileBoard
Reinstalling basement flooring after flooding in TO. Thanks for the company James.
  • James, living 34 years on 118 acres of mountain wildness, a 1gal bottle of your urine poured on trees 3 ft. From base will keep the bears away & rain won't degrade as quickly. I found when Home depot says shipped, i normally see windows 3 weeks later. Be strong, brother. ✌️
