Geraldo - Shocking Verdicts (May 1, 1996) with Nancy Grace

Published 2022-07-20
Geraldo presents two cases involving juvenile offenders.

Nancy Grace joins the action at 25:32.

The bulk of the episode concerns Jonah Iverson, a 12-year-old who was convicted of Felony Murder.

On August 29, 1995 Jonah Iverson shot and killed his 12-year-old schoolmate Elizabeth "Lizzy" Rivera.

The second case is about two parents, Deborah and Richard Harter, who took turns being shackled to their delinquent teenage daughter, Tonya Kline, for a period of two months.

Appearing in this episode are -
Jonah Iverson, Raquel Iverson (Jonah's mother), Gary Iverson (Jonah's father), Sabino and Bertha Rivera (parents of Lizzy Rivera), Jennaphr Linn (now Jennaphr Frederick, a KGNS-TV reporter who covered the trial), Nancy Grace (an Assistant District Attorney in Atlanta, GA), Kevin Kearse (attorney for Tonya Kline).

Archived interviews with Oscar Pena (Jonah Iverson's attorney) and Cynthia Zuniga-Puig (prosecutor in the Iverson trials) are shown at one point.

I believe Jonah Iverson died in 2019. If I'm right, here's a link to the online obituary - https://www.hernandezlopezfh.com/obit...

This is so sad. Jonah actually passed away in 2019 - leaving behind a daughter.

Kid has attitude just like dad. No empathy from either one.

Nancy Grace is one tough cookie. I like her. She’s a good one

The owner of the gun, Albert's father, should've been the only one going to prison. This was just a bunch of 12 year old boys trying to show off to a group of girls. If it weren't for the reckless gun owner, they wouldn't have had access to a loaded gun and two lives (and the lives of their families) wouldn't have been destroyed.
  • father is just pissed off that he actually has to take responsibility and take care of his kid for several months 😮
  • The boys father is disgusting. The way he talked to the victims parents was horrible. Acting like his loss was greater.
  • I know Ive heard of people taking clips out of guns to clean and not knowing /checking to see if there are any bullets in the chanber and shooting themselves or someone else so his story is POSSIBLE .

He has no remorse and I can only imagine who he will become after spending his youth in a facility .. He is responsible for his actions period … Unfortunately had he had a father involved in his life teaching him right and wrong MAYBE the whole thing would not have even happened … DAD Needs to take responsibility for his lack in parenting his son (period) and stop making his son feel hard done by because of his circumstances and start making him accountable for this unfortunate accident

What a lame excuse the father had for not seeing his son.

Accident my behind; when you point a gun at someone, the result is someone's life ; Jonah did not understand neither does his parents; my father taught me don't care a gun unless you intend to use it.

I expect he didn't want to shoot her, but he doesn't seem too torn up about it.
  • how did the boy get a hold of the gun in the first place? why was he playing with??
