Isa, brought back a lot of memories....was in the USP library working on an assignment when the news broke, sad day for democracy.
  • These coups were somewhat a blessing to so many who migrated . This was a slap on the government for not maintaining law and order.

Selfishness, Greed & Pride was our biggest Down fall. As an Indeginous Fijian, I've come to witness this regardless of any race or ethnicity in Fiji.

It wasn't a civilian Coupe. Members of military were involved. George Speight was The Fall Guy.

In 2010 while working in Fiji with another New Zealander we observed the following : racism from some Fijian Indians towards indigenous Fijians , but by no means from all Fijian Indians. Also much kindness towards us as foreigners was displayed from Fijians of all backgrounds. May Fiji have peace and prosperity.

Was pulled out of primary school to go home back then like the rest of the students by car and buses. Didn't even know what was happening being a class/year 4 student too young to understand until I watched the news.
  • This was blessing in disguise. It paved the future of many Indians.
  • Watching this has brought me embarrassment and shame of what these coups has brought to our beloved nation, what the people who initiated the coup didnt think of was the effect of chaos that followed, the motive of the coup was clear and understandable but what they lacked was the control to maintain order as people thought it was somehow right to burn down shops and take whatever they want ,not knowing how it would affect us future generations that was still a baby at that time and those yet to come. This is not the way the world should be!
