Thousands of people around the world have begun to the practice of microdosing psychedelics, like LSD and psilocybin, for its proposed health benefits. Clinical Scientist, Joseph Rootman, collaborated with an international team of researchers to deploy the largest study of psychedelic microdosing to date. He will guide listeners through the findings of this study and introduce them to the who, what, and why of this new and interesting practice. Joseph Rootman is a PhD candidate in the clinical Psychology program at the University of British Columbia. He works under the supervision of Dr. Zach Walsh as part of the Therapeutic, Recreational, and Problematic Substance use lab with a research focus in the therapeutic potential of cannabis and psychedelics such as psilocybin, LSD and Ketamine. Joseph is lead author on two recent publications in Nature: Scientific Reports which highlight the potential therapeutic benefits of psychedelic microdosing on mood,
mental health, and cognition. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

  • The use of Golden Teachers mushroom has been quite therapeutic for me and I'm using PE for spiritual and mental gratification.
  • Mushrooms are without a doubt one of the best things on this existence when it comes to self improvement and simply enjoying life. It's something people should do at least once, I don't care what anyone says. It's life changing stuff.

Magic mushrooms. Best shrooms I’ve ever had! Had some amazing trips when I first started taking them. Now I micro dose every few days before work and it has literally changed my life completely for the better.
  • Psychedelics are just an exceptional mental health breakthrough. It's quite fascinating how effective they are against depression and anxiety. Saved my life.

Psilocybin mushrooms healed me. I can't explain it but my experience has been spiritual and eye opening. I also started micro dosing. It really helped me get rid of depression and anxiety.

Mushrooms did wonders in my life. I could remember several years ago after divorce with my wife which brought me into my disastrous journey on Alcohol and cigarettes. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Got diagnosed with cptsd. Not until a friend recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

Taking shrooms was 100% one of the most important experiences in my life. Everything has changed since my trip - I perceive - things differently.
  • Psychedelic help a lot and they’re like a cheat sheet to life, but you could also experience the same things. Psychedelic amp tf out whilst being sober, meditation and astral projection are key.

I guess I just want somewhere to share my story. When I was 19 I took shrooms, and it was like I was turned inside out. As a child, I was very extroverted and loved being around people. And after the shrooms, I felt disconnected from everyone and everything around me. I just wanted to alone. I am learning to feel happiness from within myself, not running from myself. It's been a LONG and PAINFUL process but once it's healed, it's healed and beautiful.

I tried micro-dosing yesterday for the first time, and I had wonderful experience. I'm someone who suffers from chronic depression, and I was simply happy, not overly ecstatic, but genuinely happy and active with my friends and family. I was even excited to get out of bed this morning.

I have bipolar 1 disorder with psychotic tendencies. Without medicine, I tend to abuse alcohol and have a hard time deciphering if I'm overreacting. I took a decent trip recently, and have been microdosing since. If you have a mental disorder, please try therapy first, then possibly pills or plants. Personally, Marijuana has an adverse effect on me, so I'm not suggesting jumping into plants. Therapy and coping mechanisms first, then possibly pills or plants. But be aware, be careful and mindful, and don't continue use if it doesn't work for you. My partner smokes every day, and I might smoke once every other month if everything aligns and there's a cool movie. Plants treat everyone different. I just think this one is really helping with my mental disorder that I have been struggling with for over a decade. Everyone's different, don't shame, just feel it out, and be careful.

Psychedelics are incredible tools. They've helped me in countless ways. Helped me figure out things about myself that I never thought was there. Opened up a door inside. Helped me rewire my thoughts and habits. What they help me achieve in 3 years would easily take the double amount of time. Maybe some of them would never even come up to the surface. Psychedelics are amazing.
  • @tamrakat
I’ve been microdosing for depression & anxiety for about a year, and it’s helped me so much. 💖
  • @StayPosted81
I microdosed for 58 days straight a decade ago and it cured my ptsd for 7 years or so. I dose 1 a week now. Best thing g for me
  • The use of magic mushrooms completely helps one get over depression and makes you feel like yourself.

I hope this resurgence in research into psychedelics leads to treatments for neurodegenerative diseases.

I have CPTSD from childhood, and had years of regular talk therapy undone by an OCPD manager at a job I had worked 15 years before he became a manager. A friend invited me to a private lake to microdose with them during the day, and camp over night. The day itself was calm. WE hiked, sat on blankets, watched the sunset and the clouds. Things were vivid, but not trippy. For three months after that I fel present. I felt confident and excited about life. I look forward to psilocybin becoming more common in therapy.
