For many years I've been going to this small model train shop in Barre Vermont. Although not being the biggest shop, they have a pretty decent selection of model railroading equipment. I ended up finding a couple locomotives which seemed interesting and bought them both.

  • I’m a huge fan of the C&O! This was a major score for me. I am so jealous but I can’t complain since you were so thoughtful to take us along.

The Conrail steamer is a fairly rare Mantua offering from around 1977-ish, right after Mantua took back over most of the older items from Tyco. It sort of copies an AHM offering, as both have that Penn Central style lettering. Your Lionel GP9, those are notorious for brittle plastic truck frames - you go to pop them loose and the tab breaks. If possible I wouldn't even try to open them. I did the same thing a couple months ago, I went through an antique mall near Canandaigua NY. Lots of trains, some bargains, some hilariously overpriced. I did find one bargain on a Gilbert HO car.
  • I bought a F unit Chessie system locomotive by Tyco in 1977 for 14.00 U S dollars brand new. I ran it til it wore out. I kept the shell. Recently I went to a Local Train show and bought an Athearn blue box F unit. I was able to put the Chessie shell on it. Love how it looks. One of my favorite locomotives now. Love the show. Thanks so much.

Glad you enjoyed your trip, Harrison, and great to see that your hobby shop visit included two interesting locomotives for future repair videos. Given that four of our train club members have caught Covid, looks like any new videos you post will be my train fix for this week.
  • That looks like a neat little store! I really like the two locomotives that you ended up getting. I also hope you enjoyed your trip to the states! I also wanted to let you know that the transformers boxcar is ready to be picked up at the post office. I am hoping it made it all intact!
  • Ello SMT glad too see a new video I love your videos on train shopping keep up the good work and model railroading
  • Chessie System did have one, and only one locomotive in the all gold paint scheme. It was GP40-2 GM-50 numbered GM-50 to commemorate General Motors 50th Anniversary. The GP-7s snd GP-9s of Baltimore & Ohio and Chesapeake & Ohio wore enchantment blue with imitation gold ( yellow ) lettering or full Chessie System colors. If not for the very heavy support from Cheese System in 1972 the EMD GP40 -2 would have been a relatively poor selling diesel model.
  • Very nice post. Barre, VT, looks like a really nice New England town, and the store looked very cool.

the pacing shot of the Amtrak alone is worth a thumbs-up!

I really love watching your videos.
  • Great stuff at the stores. There was beautiful grey rolling stock wagon with Cannon on it, looked pretty awesome. Best of luck with 2 new projects in Hand.. Take care.
  • Looking forward to you working on both engines. I am sure the "Harrison Touch" will prevail. 💕😊💕
