How many billions have been spent on self driving taxis now? I've lost count. I don't see even a 100 year payback to break even. And that's if operations didn't cost anything and everyone else just give up and let you have the public transportation market and they won't. There simply isn't that much money on the table even if only one company "wins". The problem isn't making it work the problem is math.
