I challenged myself to try go 100 days in ONLY Barefoot Shoes or barefoot in general. I've watched several videos of people trying barefoot shoes, but none of them were overweight or obese. So as a bigger woman, I decided to try it myself to see if it's only the athletes that can go barefoot.

    You can redo the glue. I got some glue from poundland and have reglued my trainers with it. I really enjoyed your video. Nice to see a 'normal' person doing a barefoot video.

    As someone who professionally fits people for footwear.. I cannot tell you how often people are surprised your feet still change even when you are an adult. It is one of the most difficult things to overcome with people who thought they were always a size 7 and they are really a 9 but they just haven't noticed because as an adult your feet change significantly slower, and it's essentially a mild foot binding to keep wearing too small a size. Also that "thumb trick" that you're taught as a kid- you should use it as an adult as well... (Yes they change with weight fluctuations, time, aaaand pregnancy) I appreciate you mentioning this.

    I really enjoyed your video! You definitely bring a different perspective to barefoot shoes. I do have two suggestions: (1) Try time-restricted feeding aka intermittent fasting, or lower-carb, for weight loss. (2) Is there a way to reduce the strange squeaking/creaking noises that sometimes appear?
  • im writing this comment as I watch the video. This is so refreshing, every other video I've watched its some hyper athlete lol. Im starting my journey as well, when I was a young kid I never liked shoes or socks because they felt restricting and they hurt me, but parents and society said "you must wear" so I did. And I had a lot of problems with my feet and joints because of it. A few years ago I started to not wear shoes or socks when im at home and that has helped some of the problems, and as someone that is basically indoors most of the time because of my university work I dont wear shoes often. I now have a pair of "barefoot" shoes on order although I went with the cheaper Chinese brand ones to start out with. Have you changed the way you walk as well? because when you're barefoot you are not suppose to heel strike as that came from wearing dress shoes and trainers. For me I always do a forefoot strike and always have done so in "normal" trainers they just cause issues for me because biomechanics wise I am walking correctly lol In the last few days I have noticed how normal trainers affect my feet, I see a lot of red marks on the arch, the toes and side of my feet im tempted to just ditch shoes all together until my barefoot shoes arrive lol From my own research of why do we do this to our feet (this meaning shoes) I actually found out that until dress shoes were invented most people basically wore minimalist shoes, just a shoe made out of leather. And then in the 70s when the running boom happened the people who were in dress shoes all their lives wanted to run, and because their feet were...well borked the cushioned trainer was invented to deal with those peoples feet to get them running immediately. Although shoes are clearly very damaging, cushioned trainers I think saved the last 3 generations from very deformed feet. But on the flipside because these companies got very big, they just designed shoes around people who have no strength in our feet which caused arch collapse etc which continues to this day where trainers are getting even more cushion and because of this the science behind going barefoot is still inconclusive because most people need those crutches from modern trainers to deal with the feet problem that was caused by modern trainers and shoes so unless a 5 year study starts its always going to be inconclusive

    why don't you try a cobbler to replace those bits of leather and see how long they last then? I've been wanting to get some barefoot shoes for a while now. Probably going to get some Groundies 👍

    I really need to find some well cushioned, zero drop foot shaped shoes. My problem is I'm home all day and i have very hard tile floors. I injured my arch of my right foot being barefoot all the time in the last 4 years, so i have to wear cushioned shoes at home for now, but it's hard to find ones that don't squish my toes. Ive for some sandals for now, but i just wish the squishy running shoe people would stop making their trainers so narrow in the toes. It's just silly. Barefoot shoes are so overpriced for how quickly they fall apart. If your standing or walking on solid hard floors all day, you do need some cushion, just fair warning.

    I wore my normal shoes recently and felt like I was floating when I put them on. One thing I have noticed since going to barefoot for my daily shoes is that I trip over less. Have not noticed widening of my feet at all. I had narrow feet as a child and my mum always struggled to get shoes for me. I have toe room in normal shoes. Only time I wore shoes was when I was out or yard work.
