While I won't be playing picto in content where this matters, I look forward to using more cursed rotations in dungeons and normal raids.

Job guide is out! They seem to have made some changes, including increasing the AoE combo actions by 50%. Also Rainbow Drip has 85% falloff and 1000 potency.

Great video, PIC looks complex and honestly part of me wishes that they don't fix everything going into DT.

I highly appreciate the work put into this as I am 100% wanting to main PCT for the first tier, FRU and wanting to redo all Ultimates on it so seeing how things work out is quite interesting. Not to mention the Rainbow Drip into Holy being such a gain is something I really think they are going to fix soon enough one way or another. Tyvm for the time to make, record, show and explain it all so well!

Oh hey, that's me LOL.. I've been super excited to play Picto ever since its reveal and am now even more excited for its rotation complexity because of this video! Thank you so much for sharing these details with us! =)

There is something wacky going on with AoE across the board and I think I know why. Damn near every job gets a trait at 94 which involves potency buffs ranging from 10-110(compared to EW potencies) to a ton of skills and all of them are things used in single target, like the SMN one does all the Rites, among other things, but not the Catastrophies. PCT has one of these 94 traits too, and much like them, it's all stuff you'd use in single target. From this my deduction is thus: By this build of the game, they just straight up are not concerned with AoE balance yet whatsoever, that've just thrown down some random ass numbers for the Colour II spells and not bothered updating any old AoEs yet, once they're happy with single target output is in the right place, they'll start actually properly numbering them and the 94 traits will expand to include potency increases for AoE. Sidenote, I did not check every single job, but among the half I did check I see two exceptions, MCH doesn't give a fuck and has already 94 traited Scattershot and Auto Crossbow, which honestly just feels like proof that I'm correct on this and MCH is simply just slightly ahead of the rest in development. And BLM has just entirely being a weirdo and completely ignoring the 94 trait and continuing on with it's Enchanted Enochian had it's AoE numbers have already been reshuffled. As for why these traits exist, I fully believe this is just anti-powercreep measures, like if 100 SMN is underperforming, they can easily just buff all the rites by like 20 potency without affecting DSR and TOP because they're buffing the 94+ version of the Rites, not the 90 version. Fun fact: You can see these pre-94 Picto numbers since the dungeon they got to play level syncs to 92, Blizzard in Cyan and all three Hammer attacks are 40 potency lower, I don't really want to watch footage from the dungeon so that's all I'm willing to dig up but I'm sure the entire set of potencies is out there somewhere. So if you really wanted too, you could math out 80 and 90 PCT. Other fun fact, since Rainbow Drip at 92 precedes the 94 trait, even once they fix the Colour II potencies to upgrade at 94 and give Drip more drop off, it could still find itself being optimal to spam it in AoE specifically just for Ihuykatumu. tl;dr: I think that, for the most part, AoE hasn't actually been considered by this build and those potencies can be completely disregarded.

I sure love me a spreadsheet. Picto is definitely a caster i want to try out after I'm done geeking out about melee optimisation 😂
  • They might just boost potency of the aoe combo and make rainbow drip single target only, instead of the 50% drop-off aoe.
  • @BenHyuga
Pucto looks like exactly what I wanted from a caster.
  • @MrZepher67
i imagine they could do what they did with BLM and they have some form of stacking mechanic that makes using the actual AOE combo better than just swapping back and forth between two skills.
  • @DBurner9
Did some math with the current potencys in the job guide. In a vacuum the Single target combo is optimal at 1-3 targets, and the AoE Combo is optimal at 4+. Rainbow drip was taken to a back alley and stopped before its time... Hammer Muse trumps all of it, even if you have to draw it in combat.
  • @peaceB64
They just released the potencies for launch and several things have been adjusted thankfully. Rainbow drip was brought down to 1000 for one, so maybe it works out now!

Looks like Black Mage + Summoner job. I will get the scenery motif first for haste + dmg buffs quickly, then the weapon motif for 3 instant high dmg hammers, then last I will paint animal motif for summoning moogle and the other creature. Back to scenery and repeat.
  • @Dragkaia
i love picto's simple yet flexible playstyle. seems like you can really optimize this class, hope its fun for you high-end players! I wanna try and main picto :). Also, when it gets fixed, i hope people dont use it as a lazy aoe rotation. I think the simple way is to take Rainbow and gray it out until it has the buff. Or a cooldown? (while buffing the aoe ofc)
  • @emiElfy
Hello! Fun fact, at gcds faster than 2.39, you can theoretically change your burst to end on... Swift->creature motif->Creature muse [buff ends] -> Rainbow Drip. This is a gain of 1 potency per 1% buff this catches, as long as it still catches all buffs. However, if you lose any buffs on the Muse cast (which is later in the buff than Rainbow Drip should typically land, since its an ogcd after a cast, rather than just a cast), you lose 9 potency per 1% of raidbuff you have! Not really practically usable, but an interesting fact nontheless, I think

Could you share the spreadsheet now that potency values have been updated (Full notes have been released :D) or a followup video with new potencies? loved this video and I'm curious how numbers change with the updated values!
