Giant Hubs Episode 6: Moscow Metro - The most punctual metro system in the world!

It is one of the biggest and busiest metro systems in the world: The Moscow Metro. During rush hour the trains are running every 90 seconds to transport around 9 million people daily – that makes 2.3 billion a year. Which means: it is the busiest metro outside of Asia. Nevertheless, the trains are at 99,9 % on time - world record for the most punctual metro system!

This is made possible by a sophisticated operating and maintaining system, innovative technique and a perfect match from all departments.

Every line of the metro is running completely self-sufficient, on its own system of rails and underground stations. Disruptions on one line do not affect the other ones.

The Moscow metro is also known as the most beautiful metro system in the world. 44 of its 200 stations along the 346-kilometer-long rails are world heritage sites. Built in the 1930ies these stations look like palaces – to preserve them in good condition means a big effort.

In World War II, the metro served as bunkers for the inhabitants of Moscow and the stations were used as military bases. One of the reasons why Moscow Metro is one of the deepest in the world! Even during the war, the Russians keep on expanding their metro system – and they still do. There are construction sites all over Moscow, so it is also one of the fastest growing line networks.

I live in Moscow, and its so great to see foreign documentaries about the city. I hope more tourists will come to see Moscow by their own eyes, because its really worth it.)
  • @SovietBelka
So this is what an actual Civilization looks like? Impressive.

During my time here as a student some years ago, I've probably only had to call a taxi like 5 times. The Metro really was my best friend whenever I needed to go anywhere. The other modes of public transit were also pretty decently integrated, so bus stops and trams etc. were also never too far away from a metro station.

The efficiency of the Moscow Metro is just amazing. Public transport is much better than cars and I wish more of the world was able to realize this, especially Americans

The Moscow Metro is the 8th wonder of the world. Got lost on it many times.
  • I wish they had filmed it at Borovitskaya station in which four different lines connect. That's super busy. As foreigner living in Moscow, it truly is safe, clean and efficient. 🇧🇷🇷🇺❤️

Damn, I miss Moscow.. Now I am in Indonesia, graduated from Moscow State University of Railway Engineering. What I really miss from Moscow Metropoliten : Следующая станция ..... 🤭

That's impressive, 90 seconds and they strive for accuracy all the time. Where I live it can be anywhere from 2-8 minutes depending on the time of day, but this system moves alot more people per hour than New York. the stations are beautiful.
  • Russia i love you and moscow metro beautiful from korea 👍👍👍👍👍
  • @jayspik6498
Don’t show this to people in New York City they’ll have a panic attack..
  • Not only Moscow Underground but the trams, buses on the ground work precisely. The taxi network is very efficient too. 99% of Moscow resident are very hard working. I used all forms of travel in the city when i was there last year. One thing which missed in the documentary that the train announcement inside when station is approaching is bilingual in Russian and English. As soon as you deboard a train, the signage below are also having english names of the place in english scripts. In just one hour, i got used to this efficient metro system. Only thing was between stations, you have to walk a lot. Another thing was discipline in the escalator and boarding and deboarding into trains. I liked the city. Well no one talks english and is good other wise Russians would have taken every job on earth.
  • That was very impressive! And those newest train models look really awesome!

Metro in Moscow is really beautiful like in a Museum
  • THE STATIONS ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN THE WORLD WITH AMAZING DECORATIONS....
  • @hermannabt8361
The metro drivers are more thoroughly checked than airline pilots!
  • @meJevin
This is so cool to see such documentaries, especially when you're from Moscow and have been riding this Metro almost your entire life :D. I also really like the fact that you showed the most modern trains that we have here, they are indeed really cool, comfortable, and functional. I actually had an accident in the Metro, I was riding the train and somehow my earring fell off and I lost it.. or so I though. Two days later I called into the 'lost things' of the Metro, told them which line that I was riding and they actually had my earring already found and I had it back :)

I lived in Moscow almost 30 years ago and 2 things impressed me the most, the Metro was super efficient and the women were beautiful.
  • @justdrew5253
