Wei Yi played one of the scariest and best one-sided games of chess I have seen. Ian Nepomniachtchi did everything you are supposed to do and he still got wiped off the board. Black's classical pawn center was not as important as the knight on b5. When Ian Nepomniachtchi very reasonably exchanged that strong knight Wei Yi's bishop dominated the Black knights for the rest of the game.

I've never seen a Masters this close after 9 rounds. Like you said, 8 players could win this. Usually by now it is down to 2 or 3 or Magnus has it in the bag.
  • the second beautifully elegant game in the tournament, which still is wide open and has delivered some great atacks some horrendous blunders and now a second beautiful and elgant strategical domination. Thanks Daniel

Great king march! Got to say that was AlphaZeroesque. The way black was totally immobilised and white had all the activity. Think the resignation was not a moment too soon.
  • the Black knights on d7 and f6 "tread on each other's toes" for most of the game. Thanks for showing Wei Yi's cool-headed play, Daniel!

whacky day of games and great analysis of a game which almost seemed to go under the radar today in amongst the other chaos! I can't imagine a player who hates defending passively more than Nepo and yet he was forced to do that for half the game! Excellent from Wei Yi!
  • You have a great voice. I can listen to you all day long. Going through Power Play 10 right now. Thank you for the video.

Nice patience play by Wei. He continued improving his position before cashing in at 12:17.
  • Amazing game, thanks for covering, very similar with Nigel short game, when everyone is frozen in the opposite army, the King feels free for marching into fight.

That opening, certainly had plans I would have not guessed or sought out. And then suddenly Nepo misplays it and is in trouble. Very nice conversion by Yi. Frankly to me, the conversion was the only normal part of the game. Thanks for sharing! :)
