This is truly devastating. You did an excellent job with this footage and giving those of us who are land locked an idea of what it is like to experience a hurricane. I was getting nervous just watching your video. I’m very sorry your community has taken such a hit. Best of luck in moving forward and recovery efforts
  • @mrsignguy1000
Dearest Ruby: I can't remember when someone has documented something of this caliber in such extraordinary detail and clarity. We all know this was terribly traumatic for you, but thank you so much for sharing this journey with us. I am grateful you are safe, and that your home did not receive any more damage than it did. May God bless and comfort you and your community as you rebuild your lives. Continued prayers for you all.

This was the longest Hurricane I’ve ever experienced in 24 years of living in the cape. Your home is absolutely beautiful and thankfully you and your family are safe.
  • @RS-zx4rc
In spite of the traumatizing experience, you have managed to narrate this very well; you should consider reading audiobooks as a side gig. Very well done. Thank you for this comprehensive overview of what it is like to endure a hurricane. As a fellow Floridian, I too have been through this situation more times than I'd like to admit. Best wishes.
  • So sad to see what has happened to your beautiful city. As I type this, my husband is in Puerto Rico helping hurricane victims. I don’t usually comment on YouTube videos. However, you did such an amazing job of documenting the hurricane and the aftermath. This is so much better than anything I have seen the from the news or other Youtubers. You really helped me to understand how great the devastation was and still is. Great job. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

As a fellow Floridian I also appreciate the great true coverage of Ian. No personal agenda just true footage and clear narration. Praying for all those affected, I have family in Lee high. God bless you.
  • The first year I moved to Key West (2005) there were 5 hurricanes. Watching this brought back very visceral memories. I literally felt the anxiety that comes before the storm hits. I remember the howling wind so loud it sounded like screams. It's very frightening to live through a huge storm like this. Great video; thanks for posting it.
  • So sorry that you went through this. But thank you for sharing the footage with us. Riding out the hurricane is scary, loss of life is devastating, and coming out afterwards and driving around seeing one’s town battered is depressing. I used to live in Naples, so I know. Just glad you and yours (and the Sanctuary) are ok.
  • You've created an important historical document here. I admire your courage in capturing all the images, as well as how professional the finished video looks and sounds. Thank you for sharing it.
  • @kaylaelogan
Thank you for documenting all of this. We also live in Cape Coral. I haven’t been able to bring myself to take many photos, it’s too heartbreaking. I’ll never need a photo to remember what I’ve seen from Ian. Praying you and your family are continuing to do okay.
  • @achaosofcolor
Thank you for taking the time to document and share what we experienced in Cape Coral. My husband and I live here as well and stayed through the hurricane. It’s been hard to describe just the type of devastation and sadness we’ve been experiencing to those who weren’t here. This helps share what we’ve gone through. Thank you. ♡ (and I’m glad that you are safe!)
  • I admire your calmness throughout this storm! I'm so glad you are ok and your home made it through relatively well. Hurricanes are so scary.
  • @michaels7566
Wow, crazy experience! You took some fantastic footage and did great reporting during the storm, and stayed seemingly calm through it all. You are one brave and resilient lady.
  • @brianb2197
I came across your video today and had to watch. I live in the NW cape and everything you documented was very accurate. Not only were we hit with sustained 150+mph winds and gusts touching near 200mph at times, the storm surge after the winds was a silent deadly force. Great job showing the world a first person's perspective on a hurricane of this size. Hope your rebuilding and all is well. God bless
  • @t.morris4761
Great job narrarating this horrific event!!! As a survivor of hurricanes, my hats off to you for remaining so calm during the entire process. I will certainly pray and support those impacted as I recall having nightmares for months even though I was more prepared than most.
  • @pace628
Dear Ruby, Thank you for this well documented account of the tragedy at Cape Coral. My heart goes out to everyone who suffered destruction caused by hurricane Ian. Your account is very well carried out. You told the story in an unusually calm and composed way. Your home was probably not flooded, or it would have been documented. I am glad you are ok after this ordeal.
  • @BK-dy8jk
I live in Naples Florida and thank you for allowing us to experience time lapse and the devastation that occurred there. So many beaches are wiped out. What man builds in the calm is destroyed in the storm. This will not be the last. Storms are getting bigger and stronger.

Thank you so much for recording this tragic event. I have a dear friend that lives at an elevation of about 20' in Cape Coral who is emotionally fragile and this has been so difficult for her. She hasn't even been able to talk about the experience. She was also expecting a cat 3 event. It's her first hurricane. My heart hurts for all those whose homes and property have been damaged. I'm glad you're ok. ❤️
