Nissan Ariya After 7 Months

Published 2023-08-20
I collected my fist EV, a Nissan Ariya Advance with a 63kWh battery, in December 2022. I originaly intended to make a "6 months later" video, but after nearly 8 months here it its! With footage filmed over a few weeks, here are my thoughts on owning an EV and how Nissan have stepped up with their first fully electric vehicle since the Leaf.

If you have any questions I'd love to try to answer them - just post below and I'll do my best.

  • As an American EV driver for the past 8 years now I've see more than my fair share of snarky click baity content. This video was simply delightful. Honest, informative and down to Earth. Liked and subscribed sir.

I went in for an oil change today, and I walked out with the 335 hp one. It has 30 miles on it. I'm pretty stoked on it so far.

Nice to see some new Ariya user reports emerging from UK owners. Looks like a fantastic car.

I owned a 22 leaf for 2 years, put 33,000 miles on it. Absolutely loved it, I had no problems, loved the one pedal driving. I traded it for an Ariya 😢about 3 months ago. Wow what an upgrade. My leaf had a range in the summer of 270 miles, and that was real world, I kept very close checks on my mileage and when it said 200 miles it was 200 or more. I live near mountains so my driving includes hills, I found the regen driving to help quite a lot. I averaged 3.7 miles/kWh nearly all the time with my leaf. My new area evolve plus 4 4wheel drive with the large battery is giving me in winter months 3.5 kWh. It’s faster than my leaf, rides so much better and is so much more quiet than the leaf. Because the battery is larger it does take a little longer to charge than the leaf with level 2 charger, which is what I always use. Only charged the leaf 2 times with quick charger. My range on the Ariya in warmer weather was over 300 miles, but as I got it in late fall it’s been colder which reduces mileage by 20% or more. My only complaint with the Ariya is no true one pedal driving. It’s difficult to understand how nice that is unless you have used it for years and then it’s not available!

Interesting point raised about brakes seizing up if not used. This has helped me to sway more to the Ariya. Great video!

Hi Andy, yet again an excellent video! As I’ve said before I have the same model as you except I have the technology pack and a cream interior with the 22kw on board charger. I love this car, I think once you’ve owned an EV the “Range anxiety “ disappears. I had a trip from Cheshire to Cornwall recently and had almost zero issues regarding charging. I think you just need a different mind set and ensure you plan ahead. Would like your thoughts on any defects or problems you may have had. I have had a few, N/S blind spot indicator doesn’t really work, drivers heated seat with a mind of its own, when I remotely set the air con/heating via the app, it sets the alarm off. I have the vehicle booked in to Nissan soon so we’ll see what becomes of these issues. Anyway as I said great review, keep them coming 👍🏻

I love this video - I'm due to take delivery of my Ariya in a few weeks and popped on to find some real-life reviews. You've tackled it from a real driver's perspective, in language and terms that I can understand. Brilliant, thank you!

Just placed an order for one through salary sacrifice, you video confirms ive made a good call. Thanks.
  • @Cosmycal
I have an Ariya and the app works wonderfully for me. Also, you have the charge timer programmed, that's why it wasn't charging in your video.

Great video! I love your energy! Curious about wear and tear on tires and also cost of maintenance. Im itching for a new car, which will be electric, but am thinking it would make sense to wait a few years until the bugs are worked out and mechanics are more used to working on EVs. Oh and i agree that the copper trim in the interior is and odd choice for any exterior colour other than copper!

Hi. Great video thanks. Thought I would share this. I took delivery of aan Ariya in November last year. After 20k km the Ariya suffered a sudden charge loss, and stopped driving. Turns out it's two bad cells. Nissan towed the car under warranty but I've been waiting nearly two months for parts to arrive from Japan.... and not had use of the car in the interim. Not a great showing for a top of the range product...I live in Belgium by the way.
  • Nice vid, just purchase a pearl black 300hp etron evolve , amazing car and strongly recommend

Lots of stuff I can relate to here Andy. Great video. We bought our 2 year old used ID.3 1st Edition in March 2023 and we have used superchargers 3 times. Once was essential on a longer journey, one was trying a new site on the one charger network where we have an account and one was pure curiosity. We do not have a home charge capability but use fast and rapid chargers locally. It's really not a problem and still much cheaper than running the equivalent petrol engines VW. The VW app is basic and seems to work wherever we are BUT I am wondering what happens when the car reaches 3 years old. It is my understanding that the free 4g connectivity ends. Do I really want to pay for 4g in the car? I am really not convinced. VW has called me in for a "complementary" free check before the first MOT so this could be interesting. 🤔 The car came with a lifetime average of 3.8 miles/kWh over 11,800 miles. In just over 1,500 miles we have raised the lifetime average to 4.2 miles/kWh and regularly see days with over 5 miles/kWh with the maximum being 5.4 miles/kWh. The one long motorway trip we took saw the car returning 3.8 miles/kWh driving at 60 mph using the ACC. The VW seems to do "one pedal driving" in the same way as the Nissan with the automatic handbrake being activated by a short press and hold of the brake pedal. It releases automatically when you press the accelerator. The instant torque from the lights is excellent fun and it is easy to upset the fossilsaur drivers who think that their steed is invincible. Drivers do get irritated when we accelerate away to the speed limit but then don't exceed it. They seem to think that as we've smashed them at the traffic lights grand Prix that we'll be wanting to race them. Overall it's the best car that we've ever owned and I really could not contemplate a return to a fossilsaur.
