Driver Ball Position Mistake That Nobody Tells You!

The subject of Ball Position in golf doesn't get much attention, but it plays a significant role in how you deliver the club to the ball and the resulting shot that you hit.

Ball position should not be set in stone. Instead, ball position is a variable and should be used to manage your swing path and intended shot shape which we can do with the Stack & Tilt GRID system which I explain in more detail here.

The biggest mistake made with Ball Position happens with the Driver and comes about because people are incorrectly using the FEET as the reference point for measuring their ball position. The correct place to measure the Ball Position from is the lead shoulder, as this is the centre of the swing.

In this video, I'll demonstrate this common error and show you how to measure the Ball Position correctly to help you improve the quality and consistency of all your shots and show you how to DRAW and FADE the ball at will.

I’ve never heard anyone break this down how you have. Pretty much every PGA Pro I’ve had lessons from, say to lean back to add more distance and power when you use driver. I won’t be doing that ever again! And no more foot reference setup. Had no ideal that it’s the front shoulder that is the center of the entire swing! Incredible, thank you sir! I subscribed just now!🫡

Omg! This is a life changing concept. I can’t wait to go back to the driving range! That lean back flaw speaks volumes!
  • You are such an outstanding instructor, Rob, and you don’t know how grateful I am for the many valuable videos that you have provided to us. Like the other videos, I think this one will help me a lot. Thank you!!!

Since lining up the ball with my left armpit or shoulder & not inside the left heel, my driving has been a joy. I would encourage everyone to follow your advice, Rob.

Straight forward useful information that any player can put into practice in a short range session. Rob is simply one of the best!
  • Rob is one of the best golf instructors on the planet. I’m SO tired of seeing these other “instructors”, who post videos of swings, then ask the public what they see. How is that helpful to the golfing public at large?!? There are a small handful of amazing teachers, who provide clear and concise explanations for helping the average player. Rob is one of them. Tom Saguto and Dan Grieve are a couple others…👍
  • I often make the mistake of watching YouTube videos and then heading out to play. I watched this video last night and let it sink in. I hit a few balls at the range before went out and played and noticed a difference. Then went out and shot the best nine holes of my life. I think this tip is a game changer.
  • Brilliant! I’ve seen many things/lessons on hitting driver but never like this. Nor have I seen any as detailed and explained so well. Thank you so much Rob
  • @bluejeans8001
The explanation was clear, concise and well demonstrated. Thank you 😊
  • This instruction has made a lot of sense to me. I can't wait to try it out on the range.

Impeccable timing…, a few of your lessons have coincided with the exact problems I have been experiencing…, my last trips to the driving range have revealed a severe hook to the right, after hitting my irons relatively straight…, I noticed when I move the ball back in my stance with the driver I was able to correct the problem but didn’t understand why…, this lesson reveals my problem👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Thanks Rob, this has been the missing piece of info that's been frustrating me for past few years. Very well explained and demonstrated!
  • My first time watching one of your videos, and I know that I've learned something new. Can't wait to try this out at the range. Good work, keep it up!

Happy to tell you that on this Sunday morning in France, everybody in my collective class has been watching your video with a lot of attention. It was also a good translation exercise. Keep up the fantastic work !!
  • @markarreza
Straightforward presentation, subbed. Forgot about the lead shoulder alignment and been putting the ball so far forward. Major slice city. Club path also clearly explained.

This and your driver video from a few weeks ago really helped - found a groove and striping some well hit drives. THANK YOU
  • best coaching content on YT....applied a few of your set up methods on course and balls are shaping at will now. cheers
