The Moon Landing: Stanley Kubrick's Greatest Film | How NASA and Hollywood Fooled the World

Stanley Kubrick is considered one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. Of his 13 movies a few are considered classics in their respective genres. Including the black comedy Dr. Strangelove, the highly-quotable anti-war commentary of Full Metal Jacket, and one of the most disturbing and enduring horror films of all time, The Shining.

But in 1968, Kubrick released "2001 – A Space Odyssey". This is more than a classic. It's a masterpiece. And widely regarded as one of the best science-fiction films of all time, and probably the most influential.

This collaboration with science fiction author Arthur C. Clarke tells the story of an alien intelligence that visited Earth in the distant past, and left behind artifacts in the solar system.

The movie features groundbreaking special effects, which still hold up today.

In fact, the effects looked so good, that the movie gave the American government an idea.

Billions of tax dollars were invested in the space program but the Soviets were still years ahead of the United States.

NASA desperately needed to get to the moon before Russia, but they knew it was impossible. So they turned to one of the world's best filmmakers for help. Because when it came to the moon: if they couldn't make it, they'd fake it.

Part 2 please!!! The incredible amount of research put into these episodes doesn’t go unappreciated.
  • @nickmandleberg
The fact the master tapes were erased and the live feed had to be broadcast from a screen as opposed to a direct feed, not to mention the fact Nasa says we lost the ability to get past the van allen belt seal it for me

Every time I see the "WF" in the red circle pop up in the episode, my mind says "wtf", there is no way I'm the only one.

This channel is better than 99% of what’s on tv
  • @Linkaara
The NASA asked Stanley Kubrick to record a Moon Landing. He accepted, but he was so perfectionist and detailed-driven, that he requested the film to be made on-site
  • @ProfRedwood
“He was hit by a car before he could testify” of course he was, how else did I really expect that to end lol
  • @bigjermboktown6976
You are simply a badass storyteller and hell yeah we want that episode about what was found on the moon every damn body that watches this channel wants it

My dad passed in 2020. During the Apollo missions, he was a radio man in the Navy and got to help relay transmissions from the astronauts in space back to NASA and listened to much of these conversations in absolute fascination. A kid from a rural state getting a front row, insider’s seat to the most amazing thing humans ever did. He was proud and would often tell stories about this to me and friends and family and often he would just sigh with astonishment and say “it’s AMAZING we did that!” He was proud of his country, proud of nasa and proud he was involved in small way. He had no tolerance for moonlanding deniers and got in an argument with at least one person about it. It was a small piece of his overall life, but well known to those of us that were close to him and at his funeral, I referenced this well known thing. “As you all know, dad got to work for NASA while in the navy helping to relay signals back and forth to Houston. He got to hear a lot of the conversations. He would tell any of us today that think the moonlandings were fake that if that were TRUE, he never got his share of the hush up money and as we all know, dad would’ve fought this for years until he got his money.” Got a good laugh from everyone and helped set the mood for an otherwise sad day. I knew my dad wouldn’t lie to me about anything, especially after I was an adult and his word is all the proof I need it was real, at least from HIS limited involvement. More personal story than most would mention on here and I hope I haven’t bored people to death, but he was my absolute hero and I still tear up thinking about him. His loss just killed my mom inside and we lost her back in April. RIP to them both.
  • To think they could live stream from the moon back then but I can get a signal on my cell phone in the mountains half the time nowadays.

Came for a laugh, stayed for Heckle Fish, subbed for the excellent content! It's nice when the algorithm gets one right for a change!
  • @GravitoRaize
I'll never get over just how uncomfortable the astronauts looked in the press conference after the landing where they described what happened. They did not look happy to be there at all.
  • @TheLucidway
The fact that Mr. Wolf was "mysteriously" hit by a car and ended... That speaks volumes to what he was expressing. Rest in Paradise, Mr. Wolf. Thank you for trying.
  • @user-of5on2wz4v
Wait a second. You did not explain away the extreme radiation in outer space that prevents humans from leaving the earth's orbit.
  • @jamesking4225
Yeah, we couldn’t even get walkie-talkies to work from one end of the neighborhood to the other in the 80s
  • @hetzlerracing5490
Every time you say "that requires it's own episode and let me know if you want to see it", HELL YES we want to see it!
  • @krimson4980
Heck yeah we want a part 2. Your work and research is unparalleled
  • @IzzySpeaks
The whole "official" story plays like the movie Wag the Dog
