The study uses what is known as the material deprivation index (MDI), a metric commonly used in Europe to measure a poverty level standard of living.
Heidi Petracek explains how the new numbers were tabulated, some of the simple things more people cannot afford, and what those new findings could mean as Canada works to address its growing cost of living crisis.

Cannot afford home maintenance/taxes or rent, hairdresser, car repairs & gas, vacation, visits to friends and relatives, nothing that is not an absolute essential. Unbelievable what this country has become.

we started and funded small Food Banks in the early eighties as a response to wage starvation and high interest rates in Canada. It was SUPPOSED to be temporary. And now here we are.
