  • I never know whether to be positive or negative on this update. On the one hand hats shaped TF2 as it is today and elongated the lifespan of the game by giving Valve an easy financial incentive to keep it up... till now at least. On the other hand hats are a big reason we have the microtransactions filled world we have today.

"What can't Sawmill do?" You've just challenged some map makers to create a Sawmill for all the remaining game modes.

I like how the animated avatar doesn’t exist in a white vacuum and take up more than a third of the screen. So much effort put into animating it and providing actual visuals! Y know compared to un animated avatars clicking a PowerPoint slide..

nice to see another video of this series keep it up!
  • @ducksberries
Weirdly, despite releasing 3 years later, all of the cosmetics included with the NECA TF2 action figures come from this update. Another great video btw!

Actually, I'm almost 100% sure that Arena gamemode is still accesible on Valve servers (you just have to find it by sheer luck). Or at least, it was 3 years ago, because i remember randomly finding an Arena match in my early days of TF2. And i didn't know about the custom server browser, so I'm sure it must have been on an official server. I don't know whether that's still the case tho, so yeah. Also, what the hell? I had no idea Offblast was an official map, I always thought it was some sort of an early-days fan creation, or a scrapped map. Well, the more I know

+no more bots +no more random crits +no bugs and exploits +no more pain -you can't play the game I see this as absolute win Edit:I thought you meant with classless update that they will remove all classes and not the none class updates

Nicely done video, Liam. It's honestly been so long since I've seen an update "retrospective" video that this video felt new to me. I haven't even seen the secret pages before. I've always seen the "Gentalmans service medal " page and wondered how players got to that page to get it. And, if it casts a ray of shine onto your sad look on the state of arena mode and to remind you of it, one (Graveyard) was officially added into Scream Fortress in 2021 and is now fully cemented as a seasonal game mode. It's the best it's gonna get. Again, excellent work on the video. Can't wait for the next update.

This is a rather well-edited and well-scripted documentary of a very old update. Curiously, I've never heard of Ihasnotomato before, and seeing as he has been making videos for 8 years, I'm rather baffled that his popularity never skyrocketed. Like, the little avatar animation man! Come on.
  • @MrPatters
Had to go super slow mode to find out your least favorite king of the hill map is Brazil.
  • @abicto
seeing offblast being abandoned makes me kinda sad it was a pretty cool map with the unfortunate fate of being tied to the arena game mode
  • @QueeQuey
It feels great to see a fully edited up video from you again. You're one of the channels I look up to for mine, keep it up!

Thank you so much for this series. It's a wonderful trip down memory lane. Reminding me of a more simple time

I’ve played TF2 for nearly seven years. It’s crazy how different my time has been compared to someone who’d been playing since launch. Frequent updates, animated shorts, comics, hidden pages, secret teasers. The game has gotten comparatively very little since I started playing during Gun Mettle. These videos are a fun way to feel nostalgic over something I never even experienced.
  • that into was so funny, it starts with the camera panning forward in 2fort only for it to be revealed that it's just some guy in noclip mode breaking the 4th wall lol
  • @Tofuuuuuu
Imagine a community so starved for major updates they now just re-read all of the old major updates.
  • @Risemonger
5:11 "but if you were counting like a WEIRDO-" Why you gotta call me out like that bruh. Also can I point out that I wasn't paying attention to the gameplay at all, but more the gyrating bobble head in the corner who was talking at me all video. I guess that's a plus? Cus that means I was paying attention to what it was saying, right?
  • @tomaarten
this was the last update that I missed before I got the game, only a month and a half before my mom bought a copy when I was in school. I can't imagine my life if my mom didn't find that copy of the orange box... tf2 was a huge part of my after school life.

The last time i remember playing on Yukon was when the bot problem was at it's peak, i was literally the only player in the server because the bots couldn't leave without being kicked, making it sort of like a bot solitary confinement.
