The original Sims 1 in its full glory. Took me long enough to track down a physical copy, but it's finally back...

6:20 When he threw away that half-eaten hamburger and started crying in the street about being lonely, I felt that.
  • I dunno why, but being "homeless" in the Sims has always had a certain "test your knowledge" kind of charm that I've liked.
  • "The rich get richer and the poor get children or die trying" Holy shit, well said
  • "Claire the Bear; that ursine burglar who ran like Naruto, face-forward to my trash" is pure poetry. The "cellar door" of the Sims narration
  • "Keep buying things until you fake yourself into the illusion of a better lifestyle" Okay, that hits a little too close to home lol
  • @driiifter
The Sims had insane animations for that time, wow, can really see it looking back.
  • Now this is a REAL rags to riches CHALLENGE! I couldn't even imagine attempting this haha!
  • @92Roar
An honestly very realistic answer to the question “can you become rich starting from nothing?” “Not without magic, no”
  • @Magothys
I did this challenge once years ago, going to $0 by buying hedge plants and removing them. Never thought to use the magic town for the outhouse/sinks/food; I just peed on the ground and went hungry until I could get a phone and order pizza. Two ways to cheese this: you get the full value for items you sell if you sell them before midnight the same day, and the slot machine is a more consistent money maker than the genies. The trick is to buy art you DON'T like and look at it constantly, to bottom out your fun. Using the slot machine with an empty fun meter is a 100% win rate.
  • "I had raised enough capital to fund a couch acquisition" is a string of words my brain had not considered to hear in that exact order. I love your videos, Amphibian.
  • @frokopop
9:30 The ocean of piss around the genie lamps really highlights the extent of the grind, that's dedication man
  • Sims 1 was the last video game my grandmother got me before she passed away. The music alone still relaxes me.
  • @Isamer0
I did this once with the hokus pokus dlc. My sim started with a 3x3 „house“ and since he had nothing other to do he became the best magician out there. The house grew around his abilities. This was the most awesome household I ever played and I have to think often about it, even 20 years later.
  • Took me long enough to track down these discs - should be the start of a lot of nice retro videos, though. It warms me to return to old stuff I grew up with. Thanks for joining me on a trip down memory lane :) I've really been burning to play old games. Will come back to indies at some point soon to those wondering, but after I've had my fill of nostalgia. I just bought a copy of Pokemon Crystal yesterday. Money doesn't grow on trees, gentlemen. Also that is my hand. Perhaps more hand will be shown later.
  • That was SO great! The Sims was the first computer game I ever bought. I went to the shop, said I want a game but I don't know what type. The guy said "I think you'll like this. It only came out today, it's not even on the shelf yet." He was right! I loved it! Did I mention that I was a grown-ass adult and a mother at the time! 😂
  • The soundtracks of the sims was level 10000. I miss it so much. So nostalgic. I also remember when gossip was served in the newspaper 😂. If you cheat on your sims, best believe it's gonna be in there.

It’s hard to describe the atmosphere and feeling of playing Sims 1. It was incredible and deeply engaging. Sims 4 couldn’t even come close
  • @Dinodan3
Over 20 years later and Sims 1 still has one of the best video game soundtracks ever made. Such soothing yet distinct melodies perfectly set the atmosphere of the game. Even though I haven't played the game in years I still listen to its soundtrack. It's nostalgic but so marvelous in its own right that I can't get enough of it.
  • The way that Sims 1 showed the framing of the wall before you finished it was such a great touch. Sims has hemorrhaged it's character away since the early days
  • Can you imagine driving by this lot everyday and seeing someone on a sofa watching television with a shower stall.
