The thought of a pearl with a nose gem makes me laugh really hard

    Jasper's Pearl, holding a pie: "I'm gonna trick Jasper when she returns!" Day 1: ... Day 2: ... Day 367: ...

Pearls are ORGANIC gems, so not only are they created differently from other gems but other organic gems eg: Ambers, Corals, Ivorys and Jets might also be treated as 2nd class gems.

I doubt they kill the masterless Pearls. Homeworld is already short on resources and seeing how long it took for our Pearl to reform it's probably not so easy to make Pearls, so I think they're reassigned to other elite Gems. Also an orange Pearl with stripes and fiery clothing? Sign me the hell up <3

I don't think she has a pearl simply because I think that no matter how "perfect" Jasper may seem, I think that because she is still a quartz gem that they would disregard her to possibly ever have a pearl. She doesn't have the proper status just because of her gem type, not because of how she turned out so well.

I feel like when a pearls owner is gone for too long, they're seized and given to another gem of the same type or of equal status. Homeworld creates gems for a specific purpose, and with pearls being made to order servants like peridot said, it's not too farfetched to assume there's a management system in place to keep tabs on who their owners are as well as their whereabouts when off Homeworld. Sapphire was on earth and in the answer she predicted she would be poofed and would reform on Homeworld. If I had to guess, her pearl was probably waiting for her there, possibly in a room similar to that of a diamond, but on a smaller scale. But when Sapphire escaped with Ruby to earth, her pearl was possibly seized and given to another sapphire or a gem of equal status. As for Jasper having a pearl, I can see it as she helped in the war and was the only perfect gem to appear within the beta kindergarten. So maybe after the war was thought to be over, she received one, possibly in the way a soldier within the military would receive a medal for their service. Sorry this was so long. I had to get my thoughts out. Loved the video.
  • I imagine if a Pearl’s owner was missing for too long, they would be bubbled and stored until the owner returned (which may end up being indefinite... there’s probably some storage area somewhere full of bubbles pearls with missing masters). Gems live a really, really long time. I think even a few thousand years isn’t enough for Homeworld to assume a Gem is dead or otherwise permanently gone. Also, they don’t exactly have families, so I doubt inheritances are a thing. With how literally objectified Pearls are, i think it’s easier to compare them to a valuable than a person. If you disappeared for a few years but were still liked by your family, it’d be kind of shitty of them to give away your Xbox or something just after a few months. I think if a pearl would only be reassigned if their master was deemed a criminal or otherwise unhonorable, because then the gem would have lost rank and be no longer deserving of a pearl. Given that the Diamonds tend to erase all traces of imperfection, I wouldn’t be surprised if pearls belonging to traitorous gems were rejuvenated in order to wipe their memory. This is also under the assumption that the pearl is innocent and wasn’t connected to whatever their owner did to break Homeworld’s laws. If the gem is known to be shattered, their pearl is effectively masterless and will probably be reassigned without rejuvenation.
  • Wow! You know, I never even thought of that! Yeesh, a can of worms indeed. I wouldn't put it past Jasper to both have and be proud to have a Pearl. But Sapphire, I don't know. I wouldn't mind Sapphire having a Pearl, because it could show further depth in her character growth. Or since it has been so long since Sapphire dropped the fact she had a Pearl it can show, like all beings, she still has things about herself she needs to work out. It will be interesting to see if this is ever brought up in the show.

We know from Peridot that there are "hundreds" of Pearls in existence. yet the Diamonds themselves only utilize one or two each. Pearls are capable of light duties like "holding your things", minor housekeeping, acting as a clerical assistant and singing for your entertainment. Other than the Diamonds, the only personal quarters we've seen were those of the Famethyst and other Quartz warriors aboard the Zoo Station, and these were barrack-type accommodations, each Quartz being assigned a tube. A Pearl in this kind of environment would be superfluous. My guess is that a Pearl might be needed by a Gem who is habitually in a command position at some settled place, who would have more than a mere cubicle for living space and thus would be expected to have one to perform those tasks that would be beneath her station, as well as announcing her high status to Gems in general. If a lower-strata Gem like Jasper or Eyeball was distinguished enough to be awarded a Pearl, she'd almost certainly be separated from the general herd and allowed to live in elite quarters. Jasper may or may not have her own Pearl; same with Aquamarine. They may not want them aboard their respective spacecraft because of a lack of obvious duties, or because they may not particularly care for their Pearls' company, or even declined to have the Pearl that they were entitled to because in their estimation they're useless ostentation. A Sapphire might not have a Pearl assigned to her because she's normally close by her Diamond. It's possible that our Sapphire has a Pearl, but it's also just as likely that Sapphire only had one temporarily (e.g. when she was on Homeworld while Blue Diamond was on Earth) or declined to have one as being unnecessary.

Omg yessss I'd love to see an orange pearl as well as one with a nose gem
  • Thanks to the Rejuvenator from the recent Steven Universe movie, I think any pearls that were left by their masters either due to being abandoned or betrays may have been reset and given to someone else. Homeworld is running low on resources as it is, so making new pearls where there are existing pearls that can be reset would be a waste.

Now that I think about it, it would only make sense for Jasper to have a Pearl. Most likely Sapphire had one as well. And when it comes to their master being gone... I have three ideas. They are given to another elite gem, they are poofed and waits for their master, or lastly they are shattered because they now have to purpose
