Extreme heat is one of many factors that makes Asia the most disaster-prone continent in the world. That's according to a new report by the World Meteorological Organization. Last year, extreme weather events across the region killed two thousand people and affected millions.

This latest report warns climate change is intensifying the severity of climate disasters. Floods, the melting of glaciers, along with extreme heat remain the major threats in Asia. And Bangladesh is one of the countries MOST vulnerable to the impacts of the climate crisis. It's currently facing its longest heatwave in 75 years.

From Dhaka. I am unironically looking forward to going to office because it's unbearable at home and AC shoots up the bill so much.

i'm from chennai, india. Usually the heatwave alert starts from the may. but this time, the temperatures are soaring 38-40 C just in the beginning of april. which is affecting the daily life of street vendors, labors and other who travel long for work.

I visited Death Valley about twenty years ago. The temperature was 113 degrees (45 Celsius) dry heat in the desert. Bangladesh has humidity so the heat index is worse maybe 52 Celsius or 125 Fahreinheit. That poor woman cooking food in the kitchen because she has too I feel sorry for her.

Receiving daily rains is a blessing, north-east India in that sense is heaven.

Hello from Bangladesh 🇧🇩. It's a great sorrow that I couldn't go outside in daylight and smoke for 1 week due to acute temperature. The temperature fluctuates at 40°-45° . The sun burns me 24/7 🥵

Even in Ghana, it has been unbearably hot; and the power outages hasn’t been helping neither

Well. We just hit an all-time high of 53C in the Philippines.

Heat index here in manila reached 53c. I go out in the morning smelling nice perfume but by noon time i smell like roasted chicken coz my skin is burning. This year is especially bad. Never had this kind of heat before. Schools were closed and students go online to study. Offices now close early. Aircons are working overtime and yet it cant cool a room enough. Electricity consumption went thru the roof and worse power plants are breaking down due to the extreme heat. Stray animals like dogs and cats had it worst. There were many reports of cats and dogs just dying in the streets due to heat stroke. We are all doing our part by putting water stations around corners to give them some relief. But we cant do anything about their paws full of blisters due to walking on asphalts all day. Dams are drying up. Govt cant do cloud seeding coz there are no clouds at all, visibility is clear as far as the eye can see. Im afraid we will get strong typhoons later this year as the ocean waters are so heated today

We should see this as an example how all countries are affected by this sooner or later. And how the costs of emissions who were tanked by the planet for over 100 years come back to haunt us. Not that cyclones are in North-America and Europe but that some extreme weather events happen more often and being stronger raising the costs it has on a country each year until one day it is more in total than fossil fuel ever created on profits.

Its amazing that they think spaying water onto the road like that helps with anything. Its a waste of water and is actually making things worst.

Yesterday, ph had recorded 53 degrees heat index , and today , 51 degrees . As of actual temperature , manila had recorded 38.8 degrees Celsius , all time high ( shattering the previous record 38.6 recorded on april and may 1915 ) .

while other south east asian countries have heatwave, here in indonesia we have first ever tornado on tropics

As a Canadian, I've only felt 35 and over a few times, and only ever for a few days at a time. Im fairly sure I would die at 45, I wouldn't notice the signs of heatstroke.
